Independent Contractor: Lecturer

Role Description This is a remote position. We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and engaging Independent Contractor Lecturer to facilitate high-quality online learning experiences within MSI’s accredited programmes. The role is responsible for delivering academic content, supporting students, and contributing to continuous academic improvement while upholding institutional standards and regulatory compliance. This is a contract-based academic role focused on excellence in online teaching and learner engagement. Key Responsibilities - Teaching and Learning - Facilitate online lectures, live sessions, and discussion forums. - Deliver course content in alignment with approved curriculum and learning outcomes. - Prepare for and conduct interactive sessions that promote engagement and critical thinking. - Mark assessments in accordance with approved rubrics and timelines. - Ensure timely release of grades and feedback. - Maintain academic standards and integrity in all teaching activities. - Research and Scholarship - Remain current within the discipline and industry developments. - Contribute to curriculum enhancement based on emerging trends and research. - Participate in scholarly discussions and academic development initiatives where required. - Support innovation in online pedagogy and learning methodologies. - Academic Administration - Submit marks within approved deadlines. - Participate in moderation and quality assurance processes. - Attend relevant academic meetings (virtual) when required. - Maintain accurate academic records. - Comply with MSI academic policies and procedures. - Engagement and Training - Participate in onboarding and training sessions as required. - Engage in professional development aligned to MSI teaching standards. - Contribute to faculty workshops and academic improvement initiatives. - Support programme review processes when required. - Student Support - Provide timely academic support and feedback to students. - Respond to student queries within agreed service levels. - Identify and escalate at-risk students to relevant support teams. - Foster a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment. Qualifications - Minimum Honours Degree in relevant discipline (master’s preferred). - Prior lecturing or facilitation experience in higher education or professional learning environments. - Experience delivering online or blended learning programmes. - Strong communication and digital literacy skills. - Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability. Requirements - The Lecturer operates as an independent contractor and not as an employee of MasterStart, MasterStart Institute or MasterStart SA. - Will be responsible for own tax obligations. - Must comply with MSI Academic Policies, Code of Conduct, POPIA and Assessment Policies. - Subject to quality assurance and moderation processes. Engagement Terms - Independent contractor appointment (per module / per cohort). - Remote delivery (online teaching environment). - Flexible hours aligned to programme delivery schedule. - Participation in scheduled live sessions and marking deadlines required. Remuneration - Fee per module / per cohort (experience dependent). - Payment subject to satisfactory delivery of teaching and marking obligations. - No employment benefits applicable (Independent Contractor arrangement).
