Role Description As Tax Director, your mission is to lead the firm’s tax department with both hands—serving as the senior technical authority, the primary driver of Tax Advisory Services (TAS) growth, and the leader who develops the people and systems that make it all run. You will own the firm’s most important business unit, sit on the firm’s leadership team, and be responsible for delivering an exceptional client experience at every tier. What Success Looks Like (Key Outcomes) - Operational Excellence: The tax department runs with consistency, accountability, and quality—returns are accurate, deadlines are met, strategies are implemented, and the team doesn’t need to be managed to the clock. - Team Health: Your advisors and preparers are developed, supported, and performing well. Turnover is low. Standards are high. - TAS Growth: The advisory practice expands and deepens across the client base. TAS clients receive proactive, high-value guidance, and they feel it. - Client Relationships: High-value clients are retained, well served, and growing with the firm. The senior-most clients trust you personally. What You’ll Do - Lead, Manage & Develop the Team: Directly LMA (Lead, Manage, Accountability) a team of tax advisors and preparers. You set the standard, build the culture, and make sure every person on your team has what they need to succeed. - Grow the Tax Advisory Practice: Drive TAS engagements for Prime and Elite clients—proactive planning, multi-scenario tax strategy, and white-glove service delivery. - Maintain a Strong Compliance Foundation: Own the quality and consistency of the compliance practice. Reviews get done right. Deadlines are met. - Lead High-Impact Client Relationships: Serve as the firm’s senior client-facing presence for complex engagements—business owners, HNW individuals, and multi-entity structures. - Training & Quality Assurance: Build and maintain the systems that keep the team sharp—technical training, QA processes, and the feedback loops that catch issues before they reach clients. - Be the Technical Authority: The firm’s most senior people should be able to come to you with their hardest questions. Compliance mastery and advisory fluency are both required. - Firm Leadership: You’re not just running a department—you’re a member of the firm’s leadership team, responsible for its most important business unit. Qualifications - Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in tax planning, compliance, and complex return review—business and individual. - Leadership & Management: Skilled at coaching, motivating, and holding teammates accountable. - Advisory Mindset: You think proactively and creatively, communicate tax strategy clearly, and make clients feel like they’re in good hands. - Problem Solver: You diagnose difficult tax and financial situations quickly and propose smart, defensible solutions. - Ownership & Accountability: You follow through. Full stop. - Strategic Thinker: You can zoom out from the work in front of you and contribute to where the firm is going. Requirements - CPA required; MS in Taxation strongly preferred - 10+ years of public accounting experience with meaningful time in a leadership or review capacity - Mastery of tax strategy development. Ability to quickly diagnose a client’s situation and sketch out the tactics to mitigate their tax exposure - Deep fluency in individual and business taxation—1040s, 1120-S, 1065, multi-state, multi-entity structures - Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships at the advisory level - Experience managing or developing tax staff - Comfortable in a growing firm—you bring structure, not just headcount Benefits - Performance bonuses - 401k + employer match of 100% of contribution up to 4% of salary - Health insurance + optional dental and vision - Additional workplace perks

Big firm expertise with small firm customer service. With over 75 employees, MHP is the largest regional CPA firm in Wyoming. However, since our start in the early 1930s, MHP has been dedicated to personalized customer service to both our employees and clients. MHP is deeply rooted in the Cheyenne community, both figuratively and literally—not only have we been around for over 90 years, but our office is also located in the heart of downtown Cheyenne within walking distance of good food, coffee, and breweries. Tradition meets modernization. While the wild west may come to mind when you think of Wyoming, and that is a part of our history we hold dear, don’t think we’ve been left in the proverbial dust. Our city is home to topnotch restaurants, breweries, shopping, art galleries, and theater. Where you might see History and Today collide best may be Cheyenne Frontier Days, the largest and oldest rodeo in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over come to Cheyenne to see the concerts, special events, and rodeo each year. If the outdoors are more your scene, Wyoming is not lacking there either. We have some of the best camping, skiing, fishing, hunting, climbing, and biking in the country. You’re more than a number. As part of our MHP team, you'll have the unique opportunity to make your mark on the company and advance your career in the area you desire. Managers and Partners have an “open door policy”, which is practically unheard of in larger firms. We encourage employees to get involved in our community as well as with each other—we host several team building and employee events every year, including holiday parties, BBQs, cornhole tournaments, Friday Nights on the Plaza (a Cheyenne summer concert series), and more! Be a part of something bigger. At MHP, we strive to not only be experts in our field but also provide superior client service to our wide variety of clientele. We are a team—always willing to give a helping hand to our coworkers when we’re able and will bend over backwards for our clients. We pride ourselves on servant leadership—we are leaders in our office and our community.
