Role Description We are seeking an Integration Architect to lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise integration solutions supporting a key Department of Veterans Affairs program. This role will collaborate across cross-functional teams to ensure systems, applications, and services are effectively integrated to support business objectives, operational efficiency, and technical modernization initiatives. The Integration Architect will leverage modern integration patterns, APIs, cloud technologies, and enterprise architecture best practices to enable scalable, secure, and reliable interoperability across the environment. Responsibilities - Design and implement scalable integration architectures aligned with VA modernization initiatives and federal cloud adoption frameworks. - Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to understand integration requirements and translate them into technical solutions. - Define and support API strategies, data exchange patterns, and system interoperability approaches across platforms and applications. - Evaluate and recommend integration technologies, middleware solutions, and tools to enhance enterprise connectivity and operational capabilities. - Ensure security, performance, reliability, and maintainability of integration components and data flows. - Support integration governance, architecture standards, and best practices across the program environment. - Work closely with stakeholders to identify dependencies, resolve integration challenges, and support successful implementation efforts. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field. - Minimum of 7 years of experience in software architecture and development. - Proficiency in cloud platforms specifically VA Enterprise Cloud (AWS GovCloud + Azure Gov). - Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems. - Excellent communication and leadership skills. - Tech Stack required for this position: - Java, Spring Boot, .NET Core, Node.js, React - Oracle, SQL, PostgreSQL, Redis - Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Gitlab CI/CD, Terraform - Preferred: - Knowledge of Splunk, ServiceNow - Knowledge of Okta, Ping Identity, VA IAM services, FedRAMP compliance requirements - Knowledge of Kafka, MuleSoft and IBM MQ Working Conditions Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Position Overview The Principal Edge & OT Architect is responsible for designing and governing the edge architecture and OT integration layer that connects manufacturing systems to the digital platform. This role ensures: - Reliable and secure data ingestion from plant systems - Consistent implementation of the semantic model at the edge - Support for real-time AI inference and decision-making This role ensures that what is designed in the cloud can actually work in the plant. Job Responsibilities 1. Define Edge Architecture and Runtime Design edge platform including: - Runtime environments (containers, orchestration) - Deployment models (on-prem, hybrid) Define integration with enterprise edge platforms and ensure scalability across multiple sites. 2. Integrate OT Systems (Technical Integration) Own the technical connectivity and protocol-level integration with OT systems: - Define integration patterns for PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, historians, and industrial data sources - Support protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, and MQTT - Ensure compatibility with existing plant infrastructure Note: Semantic translation and data modeling for OT data are governed by the Principal Manufacturing & Semantic Architect. 3. Enforce Semantic Model at the Edge Ensure data is: - Normalized - Validated - Aligned with canonical definitions before leaving the plant Prevent "garbage-in" at scale. 4.
