Responsibilities - Lead the technical direction, delivery, and day-to-day management of development teams, providing guidance on architecture, design, and implementation to ensure high standards of software quality, scalability, and timely project execution. - Mentor and support the professional growth of developers by providing technical leadership, conducting code reviews, managing team performance and workload priorities, and promoting development best practices and design standards. - Design and oversee the implementation of system architecture while managing technical delivery activities to ensure alignment with business needs and technical requirements, including scalability, security, reliability, and performance. - Work closely with product owners, business analysts, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions. - Ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices and perform regular code reviews to maintain high-quality code across the team. - Provide solutions-based leadership to complex technical challenges, including issues that arise during development, debugging, or production. - Participate in Agile development cycles (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) by providing technical expertise during sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective meetings. - Advocate for and implement continuous improvements in development processes, tooling, and technologies to enhance productivity and system performance. - Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for design specifications, system architectures, and development procedures. - Work across different teams (e.g., operations, QA, security) to ensure smooth integration and deployment of applications and services. - Ensure that comprehensive testing strategies (unit tests, integration tests, etc.) are implemented and followed to maintain software reliability. - Other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). - Minimum of 7+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or technical lead role. - Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems. - Experience with modern full-stack development technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, REST APIs, HTML, and CSS. - Experience with containerization and cloud deployment technologies such as Docker and AWS ECS. - Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services. - Experience monitoring and troubleshooting production applications using CloudWatch, Splunk, New Relic, or similar observability tools. - Experience working with PostgreSQL or other relational database technologies. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment tools such as Jenkins. - Knowledge of software design patterns, secure development practices, and software engineering best practices. - Experience with system performance optimization, troubleshooting, and scalability solutions. - Experience mentoring and coaching junior developers. - Experience with Git/version control systems and collaborative development workflows. - Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications - Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Developer – Associate, or similar cloud certifications). - Experience with Amazon QuickSight, Slice, Alembic, Databricks, or similar reporting, analytics, and data visualization tools. - Experience supporting federal healthcare contracts with knowledge of FISMA, National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST, FedRAMP, HIPAA, and related security/compliance standards. Role Description Senior Level Principal Engineer with experience in water facilities design (hydraulics, pump stations, and piping design). - Advise on large-scale water infrastructure projects involving pumping systems, raw water, treated water, sewage, and storm drain systems; complex water distribution and transmission projects; design-build and alternative delivery projects; projects across multiple states and potentially nationally. - Serve as Technical Advisor/Subject Matter Expert on a variety of civil engineering projects related to water systems including modeling, pipeline, lift stations and pump station facilities. - Be the go-to resource to solve complex technical problems, mentor emerging talent and help establish BGE as a recognized leader in the hydraulic facilities practice. - Work in partnership with Conveyance Practice Leader, Water and Wastewater Treatment Practice Leaders, Area Leaders, and Team Leaders to develop and deliver winning strategies to meet client needs. - Provide technical mentorship to engineering staff in varied specialties in water and wastewater conveyance and treatment. - Contribute to the leadership of our emerging engineers in high performance operational and technical procedures, as well as relationship building and community involvement. - Partner with senior Operations/Client Management staff in developing and maintaining client relationships as the Technical Expert Point of Contact. - Provide technical engineering support for the development of project pursuits, proposals, and interviews. - Maintain vendor and manufacturer relationships, and other industry networks. Qualifications - Professional engineer (PE) license in Texas, or across the southeast states, or the ability to obtain the various state licensure(s). - Ideally Hydraulic Institute Pump System Assessment Professional (PSAP) certified. - Professional Organization participation is preferred. - Engaged in professional and industry associations such as Hydraulic Institute, AWWA, WEF, ASCE, ASME, etc. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering; or related field. - Registered PE in Texas required or through reciprocity within 6 months of hire (will have PE license in multiple states across US). - 15+ years' experience working in public works and/or municipal services projects and working in water & sewer system planning and design, engineering and designing water facilities (hydraulics, pump stations, and piping design). - Significant expertise in hydraulic facilities, pump stations, and lift stations is a must have; highest priority. - Experience with large diameter pipelines and conveyance systems is a must have, highest priority. - Understanding water conveyance systems (raw water, treated water, sewage, storm) is a must have. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Experience with Water Modeling Software (WaterGEMS, InfoWater, or comparable) preferred.
