Role Description As our Financial Counselor, you will play a critical role in realizing CommonSpirit Health's mission by assisting patients with the financial aspects of their healthcare journey. This position is responsible for ensuring patients understand their insurance benefits and available financial options, helping them navigate often complex payment responsibilities. You'll work collaboratively with clinic staff and other facilities to ensure efficient, compliant, and patient-centered financial services. - Perform comprehensive financial counseling, including discussing health insurance benefits, billing practices, pre-collections, and setting up payment arrangements. - Identify potential financial resources like Medicaid, Marketplace plans, COBRA, and financial assistance programs. - Obtain pre-authorizations and communicate approvals/denials to clinical staff. - Provide cost estimates and assist patients with charity care or financial assistance applications. - Ensure patients understand all available financial pathways before treatment begins. Qualifications - Strong working knowledge of clinical office procedures and medical terminology. - Basic understanding of federal/state regulations related to healthcare. - Experience in healthcare revenue cycle functions, including insurance or registration, and/or healthcare collections/customer service is preferred. - Exceptional communication skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and self-motivation. - Computer proficiency. • Provide high-quality behavioral health care as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor • Partner with community health organizations to expand access to care • Deliver therapy independently while collaborating with support teams • Utilize telehealth platforms for patient therapy sessions

• Educate and assist patients with making informed decisions about payment options and financial arrangements regarding their healthcare services • Determine and verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for financial assistance programs • Knowledgeable of all aspects of the financial process from scheduling, billing, and collections • Communicate well with patients and insurance companies over the phone or fax • Document and report payment information timely and accurately • Verify and assure all accounts are ready for billing with adequate supporting documentation, within the established time frames • Educate patients about payment options and financial assistance • Negotiate and strategize patient payment arrangements • Update patient accounts and balances • Collect patient payments over the phone • Review and process patient and insurance company forms • Follow policy and procedures in regard to financial screening, arrangements and third-party demands
