Role Description Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking two Programs and Policy Fellows to support key campaign initiatives that advance the organization’s mission and strategic goals. In this role, Fellows will contribute to public policy efforts, research, coalition building, and cross-functional projects that drive meaningful impact for animals. They will also help integrate community-building and belonging practices into assigned campaigns, ensuring programs and policies are culturally responsive, inclusive, and reflective of diverse perspectives. This position plays an important role in strengthening a more welcoming and effective animal protection movement for people of all backgrounds. - Coordinates and/or assists in policy efforts including legislative bill and agency rule tracking, coalition building, garnering endorsement from elected officials and supporters, organizing volunteers, and phone banking and other grassroots support; - Develops materials such as reports, action alerts, fact sheets, op-eds, talking points, letters to the editor, communications to legislators, testimony, lobby packets, and other advocacy and outreach materials; - Monitors key sources for news and information relevant to the assigned program and provides in-depth research and analysis on relevant public policy issues; - Contributes to the overall goals of our community building programmatic work, including assisting with webinars, conference scholarships and receptions, social media content management, and other projects. Supports ongoing engagement of award and scholarship recipients; - Works on assigned projects to advance section’s goals and strategies, including contributing to planning, implementation, coordination, and delivery of project outcomes; - Lobbies elected officials, testifies before government committees, reviews legislation, and collaborates with state directors to advance our policy efforts; - Assists with message development, talking points, and campaign strategy; - Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in communications, science (wildlife, psychology, zoology, etc.), public policy, or another related field, or equivalent work experience required; - A minimum of one (1) year of experience in public policy, communications, research, advocacy, nonprofit operations, or another related field preferred; - General understanding of the regulatory and legislative process; - Must have a passion for social justice and community building; - Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); - Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive; - Strong research, written, and verbal communication skills; - Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes; - Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment; - Willing and able to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends; - Strong interpersonal skills are necessary; - Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
