Role Description We're looking for a People Partner who can move comfortably between the strategic and the operational — one day coaching a manager through a tough performance conversation, the next day working through a benefits enrollment workflow. This is a hybrid HRBP and People Operations role, and it's a great fit for someone who genuinely likes both sides of that work and doesn't want to specialize in just one. You'll partner with the head of people as the connective tissue between people, process, and policy. You'll own meaningful parts of our employee lifecycle and compliance work, and you'll have real latitude to redesign the things that aren't working. We're a growing company in a complex industry, and we want someone who sees that complexity as a challenging but rewarding opportunity. What you'll do - Employee relations & performance management: - Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on performance issues, employee concerns, and team dynamics. - Coach managers through difficult conversations — performance improvement plans, corrective action, and, when needed, terminations. - Conduct investigations into employee complaints with care, neutrality, and rigorous documentation. - Benefits administration: - Own the day-to-day administration of our benefits programs: health (medical, dental, vision); retirement savings; and ancillary perks & benefits. - Run open enrollment, handle qualifying life events, and field employee questions. - Identify gaps or pain points in our benefits experience and propose fixes. - Compliance & workplace safety: - Keep us compliant across federal and multi-state employment law — FLSA, FMLA, ADA, state leave laws, pay transparency, and the rest. - Own workplace safety reporting, including OSHA logs, incident response, and required postings. - Maintain employee files, I-9s, and other regulated records. - Partner with the head of people & Legal to stay ahead of regulatory changes that affect a distributed, multi-state workforce. - People operations: - Improve and own the processes behind the employee lifecycle — onboarding, offboarding, internal transfers, and leaves of absence. - Build self-service resources and documentation so managers and employees can find answers without always needing us. - Process improvement & AI: - Look at every workflow you touch with an eye for "could this be faster, simpler, or smarter?" - Use AI tools to automate documentation drafting, policy summarization, ticket triage, data analysis, and reporting. - We want someone who treats AI as a daily teammate, not a novelty. Qualifications - 4+ years of progressive experience spanning both HR business partnering and people operations / HR generalist work. - Demonstrated experience handling employee relations cases end-to-end, including performance management, investigations, and terminations. - Hands-on experience administering benefits programs (medical, 401(k), leave) and running open enrollment. - Solid grounding in multi-state US employment compliance, including workplace safety reporting (OSHA recordkeeping, incident reporting, postings). - Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment. - Experience in hospitality, travel, vacation rentals, hotels, or a similar industry is a strong plus. - You are fluent with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, etc.) and have real examples of how you've used them to improve your work. - Excellent judgment, discretion, and follow-through. - Strong written communication: you can write a clean policy, a difficult email, and a manager training guide. Nice to have - PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent certification. - Experience with ADP Workforce Now. - Spanish language proficiency. Compensation and logistics - Fully remote in the US, Central or Eastern time zones preferred. - Salary: $75,000–$82,500 USD per year, depending on experience and location. - Generous paid time off. - Generous company-sponsored insurance (medical, dental, vision, life, etc.). - Complimentary and discounted stays at AvantStay properties. - Paid parental leave. - Wellness stipend. - Cell phone stipend. When you join AvantStay You’ll be doing work that matters alongside an experienced and dynamic team, transforming the way people travel and vacation. Your place within the colossal travel and real estate industries will leave you with a wealth of opportunities to feel both challenged to innovate and rewarded for your efforts. Of course, we will offer you pay and benefits, but we’re about more than that. AvantStay is a place where you can craft your own path to greatness.
