Data Engineer, Snowflake, Applied Analytics

Cotulla Education

• Design and manage APIs to enable secure and efficient data flow between systems • Build, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines for reliability and performance • Develop and automate ETL processes to ingest, clean, and transform data from multiple sources • Manage and optimize the Snowflake data warehouse environment • Create and maintain data models and views to support reporting and BI tools • Monitor data pipelines and troubleshoot issues to ensure data consistency and accuracy • Collaborate with data analysts and BI teams to support reporting and visualization needs • Implement data governance, security, and compliance best practices • Validate data outputs and ensure quality, consistency, and integrity across systems • Continuously identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, and efficiency • Document data flows, integrations, and system architecture for transparency and knowledge sharing • Provide support and guidance to stakeholders on data infrastructure and reporting capabilities

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience designing and managing data pipelines, APIs, and data warehouse environments
  • Strong SQL skills with experience in Snowflake (preferred) or similar platforms
  • Hands-on experience with ETL processes and data transformation
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and best practices
  • Experience supporting BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work with large datasets across distributed systems
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and performance
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment
  • Flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends, and travel

This high-impact position focuses on enhancing a centralized data environment (CDE) that delivers auditable financial transaction data, improves transparency and accountability across DoW, and builds a robust common operating picture for senior leadership decision-making. Successful candidates are expert Python developers with strong relational database (SQL) skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset. You will translate strategic imperatives into actionable data solutions—ensuring the right data reaches the right stakeholders at the right time to drive mission success in a dynamic national security environment. Essential Job Responsibilities - Designs, models, documents, and governs the logical and conceptual data architectures, relationships, and schema evolutions for complex, enterprise-scale applications in support of tracking and accountability reforms. - Analyzes current and emerging system requirements, then develops comprehensive technical, structural, and organizational specifications to enable auditable, transparent data flows. - Establishes and enforces data modeling standards, capacity planning, and performance optimization to support high-reliability DoW environments. - Develops robust Python-based scripts and ETL/ELT pipelines for efficient, secure data ingestion, transformation, and integration from diverse sources. - Leverages deep expertise in Relational Databases (SQL) for advanced querying, schema design, optimization, and data integrity assurance. - Operates within Agile/SAFe development frameworks to deliver iterative, high-value increments aligned with business priorities and DoW policies. - Provides technical guidance and mentorship to align development efforts with strategic FMS reform objectives, including enhanced tracking, oversight, and reporting. - Performs additional duties as assigned or required to advance mission goals.
