POSITION SUMMARY: InquisIT is seeking a part-time Palo Alto Firewall Engineer to support and maintain secure network and firewall operations for customer cloud, data center, and on-premise environments in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience configuring and managing Palo Alto firewalls, creating and maintaining firewall policies and rule sets, troubleshooting network connectivity issues, and supporting secure enterprise network operations. This role will initially require on-site support in Washington, DC for approximately the first 60 days for onboarding, knowledge transfer, and environment familiarization. Following this period, the position is expected to transition primarily to remote support with occasional on-site requirements as needed. This is a part-time role of about 20 hours per week on-site initially then moving to 5-10 hours a week based on operational requirements and needs. Once the hours reduce, the role will be primarily remote. Primary Job Responsibilities: - Configure, administer, maintain, and support Palo Alto firewalls - Create, modify, and optimize firewall rules, NAT policies, and security policies - Configure and troubleshoot site-to-site and remote access VPNs - Monitor firewall performance, traffic flows, and network connectivity - Troubleshoot firewall, routing, and network communication issues - Support network segmentation and access control initiatives - Review and maintain firewall configurations and rule documentation - Perform firewall policy reviews and cleanup activities - Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to maintain secure network operations - Support scheduled maintenance activities and occasional after-hours changes as needed Experience and Qualifications: - 7+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise firewall and network security environments - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience - Strong experience administering Palo Alto firewalls required - Experience creating and managing firewall rules, NAT configurations, and VPN connectivity - Strong understanding of routing, switching, TCP/IP, and network security principles - Experience troubleshooting enterprise network and firewall issues - Familiarity with Cisco firewall technologies preferred - Strong documentation and communication skills - Ability to work independently in a part-time support capacity Preferred Skills and Certifications: - PCNSE (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer) - CISSP - CISA - Security+ InquisIT provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
