Role Summary The Senior Compute Consultant - Azure Local Hypervisor & Wintel Administration is a lead-level compute operations role responsible for the architecture-aligned administration, stability, and lifecycle management of Azure Local (Azure Stack HCI) platforms and Windows/Wintel compute environments. This role provides senior technical ownership of hypervisor clusters, Windows server platforms, and compute services, acting as an escalation point for complex incidents and platform decisions. Certificate management is a secondary responsibility, limited to operational support of certificates required by compute platforms and services and executed in alignment with enterprise PKI standards. The role sits fully within the Compute team and works in close partnership with Network, Storage, Security, and Application teams. Primary Responsibilities: - Azure Local / Hypervisor Platform Ownership (Primary) - Act as senior administrator and subject-matter expert for: - Azure Local (Azure Stack HCI) - Hyper-V virtualization platforms - Own the operational health, availability, and performance of compute clusters. - Perform advanced administration of: - Cluster creation, expansion, and rebalancing - Host lifecycle management (patching, upgrades, remediation) - Capacity planning and growth forecasting - Lead platform-level troubleshooting for: - Cluster instability - Host failures - Storage or network-related compute impacts - Support Azure-integrated management capabilities including: - Windows Admin Center - Azure Arc-enabled services - Senior Wintel Administration & Platform Support (Primary) - Provide senior-level administration for Windows Server environments hosted on Azure Local. - Lead and execute: - OS hardening and baseline enforcement - Patch orchestration and maintenance windows - Performance tuning and resource optimization - Act as escalation point for complex Windows OS and platform incidents. - Partner with application teams during: - New workload onboarding - Major upgrades and migrations - Maintain platform standards and ensure alignment across compute environments. - Secondary Responsibilities: - Certificate Management (Operational Support Role) - Support certificates required for compute and hypervisor platforms, including: - Azure Local hosts - Cluster services and management endpoints - Windows-based platform services - Install, renew, and replace certificates issued by: - Enterprise internal PKI - External certificate authorities (as required) - Ensure certificates are: - Installed correctly - Renewed prior to expiration - Validated post-replacement - Troubleshoot certificate-related issues impacting: - Secure connectivity - Platform services - Management tooling - Follow established certificate standards, runbooks, and escalation paths - This role does not design PKI, operate certificate authorities, or define certificate policy - Incident, Change & Operational Leadership - Serve as senior escalation point for compute incidents, including after-hours support when required - Lead troubleshooting bridges and recovery efforts for: - Hypervisor outages - Cluster degradation - Platform-wide compute issues - Author and review: - Change plans - Risk assessments - Maintenance runbooks - Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and drive corrective actions - Engineering & Service Improvement - Identify recurring operational issues and drive platform improvements - Recommend automation and tooling enhancements to improve compute reliability - Mentor junior compute administrators and provide technical guidance - Contribute to compute platform roadmap discussions - Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment).
