This role will be in our Contract+ unit. The ideal candidate will have brokerage casualty (GL) underwriting experience in the Excess & Surplus (non-admitted) line of business. This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program. As an Underwriting Specialist in Contract, you will: - Determine individual risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions. - Develop, analyze, and evaluate information and exposures on risks of a complex technical nature. - Achieve production and loss ratio goals with assigned general agents or program managers. - Review and analyze claims, loss history, and take appropriate action on accounts. - Establish and maintain effective relationships with general agents. - Work independently with a high level of authority and judgment. - Determine appropriate reinsurance placement on individual accounts. - Assist with research, development, and presentation of new products, forms, and manuals. - Train and mentor Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants. Qualifications - Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered. - Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI is preferred. - Six years related experience or five years as an underwriter, excess & surplus lines preferred. Requirements - Knowledge of underwriting policies, practices, and procedures. - Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. - Demonstrates advanced negotiation skills. - Ability to analyze insurance risks to determine acceptability. - Ability to devise business solutions to problems. - Ability to work with the wholesale/general agency distribution system. - Ability to use/learn job-related computer software. Job Summary: The RF Test Automation Engineer designs and implements software-based automated test systems to collect, analyze, and report data on complex RF assemblies used in Electronic Warfare applications. This role focuses on developing scalable, reliable software solutions that interface with RF test equipment in an object-oriented programming environment, supporting both engineering development and production testing. This position is open to a range of experience levels. Candidates will be considered for appropriate leveling based on skills, experience, and technical depth. Essential Job Functions: - Design, develop, and maintain automated test software using object-oriented programming (primarily C# or similar languages). - Develop modular, reusable, and maintainable code following software engineering best practices. - Interface software with RF test equipment using standard communication protocols and drivers (e.g., VISA, IVI, SCPI). - Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, quality) to define test requirements, including instrumentation and hardware needs. - Develop and execute automated test solutions for RF performance parameters such as Gain, P1dB, Noise Figure, IP2, and IP3. - Integrate and control a variety of RF test equipment, including network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and oscilloscopes. - Utilize communication interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, Serial (RS-232), and GPIB. - Use version control tools (e.g., Git) to manage and maintain codebase integrity. - Create and maintain technical documentation, including test procedures and software documentation. - Provide training and support to engineers and production personnel. - Support troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and optimization of automated test systems. - Use generative AI tools such as Codex and Claude Code to assist in the creation and review of software Qualifications: - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field - Experience: - Experience in RF test, test automation, embedded systems, or related engineering disciplines - Open to early-career through experienced engineers (typically 1–10+ years) - Technical Skills: - Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (C#, Python, C++, or similar) - Familiarity with RF concepts and measurement techniques preferred - Experience with test equipment, instrumentation control, or automated test systems is a plus - Experience using generative AI tools to create, test, and review software is a plus - Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered Work Environment: - This hybrid role requires regular on-site presence at our Philadelphia, PA facility, with flexibility for remote work one day per week. - Occasional travel may be required to support test system integration and cross-site collaboration.
