Position Summary: The Bioinformatics Scientist will take lab-generated data and create computational models that allow further manipulation and experimentation, perform incremental analysis required to process large amounts of data generated in a high-throughput Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) laboratory devoted to analysis of genomics data with focus on bulk and single-cell analysis. The function of Bioinformatics Scientist requires both strong programming skills and quantitative/statistical analysis. A Day in the Life of a Bioinformatics Scientist at Discovery Life Sciences: - Work with Product Managers and Designers to conceptualize and implement new features. - Collaborate with fellow Engineers to architect robust and scalable software solutions. - Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code. - Participate in Agile development processes, including daily stand-ups and sprint planning meetings. Must-Have Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience): - Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field preferred - Minimum of five (5) years' experience in next generation sequencing (NGS) (Illumina) data analysis. - Excellent programming skills, including Python and R, along with demonstrated experience with SQL databases, Unix and REST API - Experience with Unix/Linux development environments and cloud computing - Previous experience with bioinformatics tools such as BWA, SamTools, and GATK - Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced working environment and contribute directly to our company culture and success. Key Responsibilities: - Develops and employs computational tools to analyze biological data. - Interpret data such as gene or protein expression patterns nucleotide, and protein sequence, structure, functions, pathways, and genetic interactions. - Responsible for developing testing and supporting NGS data analysis tools and pipeline and ensuring proper automation of data analysis - Evaluate and implement state-of-the-art methodologies for NGS data analysis - Responsible for building scalable cloud and HPC solutions. - Create and maintain databases and data models for storage and retrieval of biological information - Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required - Collaborate with team members and stakeholders across the organization Compensation and Benefits: Discovery Life Sciences is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices, and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $90,000 - $130,000 annually. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience. Your annual salary is only one part of your total compensation package.
