Job Description

DevX Engineer

Pion

• Build and maintain the internal tooling that powers our product engineering teams — from CI/CD pipelines and golden path templates to developer onboarding and AI tooling configuration. • Help instrument CI/CD metrics and contribute to our DevX health dashboard • Work on standardising AI tooling configs (Claude/Cursor rules, MCP server configs, Windsurf) across all of our repositories • Maintain and improve our golden path service templates • Triage and respond to developer support requests from platform, product or data engineers • Contribute to our onboarding documentation and local environment setup tooling

Job Requirements

  • We're looking for a Junior- Mid DevX Engineer to join our growing Developer Experience team at Pion.
  • Have some hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Are comfortable working in a Linux/Unix environment and writing shell scripts or basic automation
  • Have worked with at least one backend language (we're primarily TypeScript/Node.js but we care more about transferable skills than specifics)
  • Understand the basics of version control workflows — branching, MRs, code review
  • Are genuinely interested in the developer experience problem: you've felt friction in your own workflow and you want to fix it for others
  • Communicate clearly and aren't afraid to ask questions or flag when something doesn't make sense.
  • Bonus points for:
  • Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar)
  • Familiarity with AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude, Windsurf, Copilot) and their configuration
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code or container-based workflows
  • Experience contributing to internal tooling, shared libraries, or developer platforms.

Benefits

  • 💰 Competitive salary.
  • 🌴 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.
  • 🏆 Accredited 'Great Place To Work’ company in three categories.
  • 🧠 Commitment to personal development and career growth, coaching workshops and progression plans.
  • 👩🏽‍💻Remote-first working environment. This means you’re not obligated to come into the office, you can choose the environment you think you excel best in with up to 180 days working from abroad (subject to approval — sadly, we can’t say yes to every beach).
  • 📅Flexible working hours (start between 8-10am and finish between 4:30-6:30pm).
  • ❤️ Focus on welfare. We offer a monthly wellness allowance, gym memberships, access to mental health first aiders, a health cash plan and more.
  • 🛍️ Access to incredible partnership discounts for the biggest brands in the world. Think Google, Apple, GymShark, Domino's, Uber and loads more!
  • 💻 £200 work from home set up allowance to put towards your at-home working space.

ABOUT VICTORY LIVE Victory Live is a private equity backed technology company aimed at maximizing distribution and yield for live event ticket inventory. We provide an end-to-end software platform for the live ticketing industry, managing thousands of sports, theater, and live music event tickets on behalf of artists, promoters, teams, venues, and professional resellers. Victory Live’s comprehensive offerings include an established B2B marketplace along with both a full-service and an automated SaaS platform to handle all elements of the ticket sales lifecycle, from ingestion to sales fulfillment. THE POSITION The Sr. Analytics Engineer will sit at the intersection of data infrastructure and intelligent automation, helping Victory Live's business intelligence function evolve from reactive reporting to proactive, AI-augmented insight. You'll build and maintain the data foundation that powers our decision-making and the pipelines and models that feed automated and agentic workflows across the business. RESPONSIBILITIES - Design, build, and maintain robust ELT pipelines using tools like dbt, Snowflake, Dagster, and Azure Data Factory, applying AI-assisted development practices to accelerate delivery and reduce toil. - Write efficient SQL and Python, leveraging AI coding assistants (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) to improve velocity without sacrificing code quality or reviewability. - Build and maintain semantic data models including fact/dimension tables, metrics layers, and reusable datasets that serve both human analysts and programmatic/agentic consumers downstream. - Develop pipelines and data structures that support AI-powered features, including LLM context retrieval, embedding generation, structured output ingestion, and agent tool integrations. - Support BI and reporting platforms (Sigma) by ensuring data is well-modeled, documented, and performant. - Monitor pipelines and proactively surface data quality, reliability, and freshness issues, exploring automated alerting and remediation patterns where appropriate. - Maintain clear documentation of models, transformations, and lineage; contribute to an internal data catalog that enables both human and AI discoverability. - Integrate third-party APIs and internal services into pipelines, with awareness of how those data sources may feed automated workflows or agent-facing tools. - Participate in code reviews, testing, and Git-based workflows; hold a high bar for data integrity regardless of how code was generated. - Contribute to team goal-setting and technical roadmap planning, bringing a perspective to prioritization and long-term data infrastructure decisions. - Mentor and develop junior and mid-level team members in best practices, SQL, data modeling, and the effective use of AI development tools. REQUIREMENTS - 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related role. - Strong SQL fundamentals; comfortable writing complex transformations, debugging query performance, and reasoning about data model design. - Proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, and API integration. - Hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake strongly preferred). - Experience with dbt or a comparable transformation framework. - Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Dagster, Airflow) or ELT services (Fivetran, ADF). - Demonstrated comfort using AI coding assistants as a routine part of development — not as a novelty, but as a productivity multiplier with appropriate critical judgment. - Solid understanding of data modeling concepts: normalization, dimensional modeling, schema design, and data lineage. - Strong communication skills and a bias toward documentation and knowledge sharing. - Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior individual contributor — influencing technical direction, contributing to planning processes, and supporting the development of teammates Preferred Qualifications - Exposure to agentic or LLM-based workflows; e.g., building tool-use contexts, structured output pipelines, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) data layers, or similar. - Experience with business intelligence platforms (Sigma, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI). - Familiarity with vector databases or semantic search infrastructure (Pinecone, pgvector, etc.). - Experience in cloud environments (Azure preferred, AWS or GCP also relevant). - Understanding of data governance, quality frameworks, and observability tooling (dbt tests, Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, etc.). - Comfort in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where the right answer is often "build it, learn from it, iterate." Victory Live is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, creed, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship status, marital status, disability, gender identity, gender expression, Veteran status, or another other characteristic protected by state, local or federal law.
