You will help develop and embed a proactive, intelligence-led risk management framework that enables the bank to achieve its goals safely and soundly. As a leader in our Financial Crime Risk Department, you'll make an impact by: - Developing and implementing the strategic direction for financial crime risk management. - Providing expert advice and effective challenge to the first line of accountability to uplift our overall financial crime risk management maturity. - Leading, mentoring, and inspiring a team of dedicated risk professionals. - Driving a culture of continuous improvement and proactive risk identification. About the Role The Head of Financial Crime Assurance reports to Chief Compliance & Financial Crime Officer (and MLRO). - to protect BEN from regulatory, reputational and financial risks by establishing, leading and maintaining an independent Assurance framework across all categories of financial crime (AML/CTF, Sanctions, Fraud, ABC and FATCA/CRS). - provides assurance that financial crime controls and operational processes are implemented, operate effectively and comply with applicable financial crime requirements and obligations (e.g. policy, legislative, regulatory expectations) and BEN's risk appetite. - independent control testing and thematic reviews, the role has responsibility for the identification of financial crime issues, tracking, remediation oversight and closure validation ensuring that deficiencies identified through the assurance activity are appropriately managed, remediated and sustainably resolved. - Lead and develop a high-performance Financial Crime Assurance team, driving a culture of independent challenge and expert insight to verify the effectiveness of the Bank's financial crime controls. What you'll bring to the role Essential - Expert knowledge and demonstrated understanding of financial crime risk management (2nd Line) and the risk environment within financial services. - Demonstrated experience establishing and managing assurance and assurance testing frameworks in a leading international or domestic financial institution - either 2nd or 3rd Line - Best practice technical expertise in interpretation of financial crime legislation and obligations. - Experience in presenting financial crime information to senior stakeholders (e.g. committees, senior management, Boards) - Tertiary qualifications in law, commerce, accounting, economics or other related discipline are. essential. Highly desirable - Post-graduate studies in Risk, Accounting or Law - Professional qualifications are highly desirable e.g. ACAMS, CFA, AFCS Location: Melbourne, Bendigo, Adelaide, Sydney, or Brisbane with flexible hybrid options. • Act as the independent quality authority across all externally developed applications and systems • Validate all vendor-delivered features before release: functional, regression, and integration testing • Ensure solutions meet business requirements — not just technical specs • Identify gaps vendors may overlook or under-test • Define and implement a QA strategy across all systems • Establish test plans, acceptance criteria frameworks, and release readiness checklists • Introduce automation where appropriate (without overengineering) • Review and challenge vendor-provided test cases, QA processes, and defect resolution approaches • Ensure vendors are not testing their own homework • Escalate quality risks early and clearly • Own testing across system boundaries: ERP, eCommerce, CRM, and data platforms • Validate real-world workflows: order-to-cash, customer journeys, data flows • Identify failures that only show up in end-to-end scenarios • Ensure data accuracy, proper transformations and mappings across systems • Validate reporting outputs and dashboards against source systems • Act as a gatekeeper for production releases with defined go/no-go criteria • Participate in sprint reviews and release planning
