Director, Standards Location: Reston United States Full Time Job Description: ASCE is seeking an experienced Director, Standards to lead our centralized Standards Office. This is a high‑impact role overseeing the strategy, growth, and general direction of ASCE's cross-organizational standards development operations. What You'll Do As Director, Standards, you will guide the strategy, quality, and impact of ASCE's standards activities. In this leadership role, you will: - Direct the ongoing activities of the Standards Office, assuring goals, budgets, and priorities are developed and objectives are successfully achieved - Create and maintain an overarching Standards Development Plan to guide content strategy and portfolio/product development - Conduct market research to assess the need for and likelihood of use and adoption of ASCE standards and supporting products in various subdisciplines of civil engineering - Create and manage budget, financial product plans, and P&L - Collaborate with colleagues throughout the organization, at other SDOs and professional societies, at governmental agencies, and so forth to actively stimulate the initiation of new standards-related activities, products, and programs - Ensure ANSI-accredited Rules compliance; maintain Rules and procedures - In collaboration with ASCE's Engineering Programs and Government Relations staff teams, execute strategies to accelerate broad adoption and incorporation of standards into regulatory code - Contribute to standards product-related strategy with leadership in other ASCE divisions (Engineering Programs, Publications, Education, Membership, Conferences, Business Development, and others) - Increase volunteer engagement in standards committees and activities What You Bring - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business, management, marketing, or standards development - Broad knowledge of standards development and strong business acumen - 10-12 years of experience in a professional association or society, including supervisory experience - Experience in STM publishing, market research, and/or strategic leadership is strongly preferred - Strong leadership, communication, relationship‑building, and decision‑making skills - Demonstrated success managing a team of 5 with potential future department growth - Willingness to travel as needed to standards committee meetings (if not local to Reston VA), as well as code hearings, conferences, and other events Why ASCE?
