Role Description The Software Engineer-NET will join an Agile development team responsible for our web applications, special projects and/or supporting tools. The Software Engineer should be passionate about code quality and software excellence, with extensive development experience. This role will require close collaboration with other engineers, architects, and team members. Requirements - Build user interface and server-side components using approved frameworks producing quality code. - Participate in design and code reviews suggesting improvements and troubleshooting. - Collaborate at the architecture, design, and code levels to ensure standards-based, high-performance systems. - Actively participate in an internal community of practice events to help with continuous learning. - Perform all work in accordance with the company’s quality programs, standards, and procedures. - Maintain safety, security, and privacy standards throughout all areas of responsibility. Knowledge - Knowledge of popular software development processes, i.e., agile, scrum, feature driven development. - Experience troubleshooting and resolving application defects within a mature production system. - Working knowledge in distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, micro service frameworks and relational databases preferably with exposure to stored procedures. - Test driven development. Skills - Experience with .NET Standard, .NET Framework, .NET Core, C#, SQL Server, testing frameworks like Selenium or Cucumber, XML, Restful APIs, ORM (Entity Framework), Message Queuing, SOAP, REST API and MVC frameworks. - Client-side web development utilizing HTML 5, SCSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, and Blazor. Abilities - Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, think critically and problem solve, learn new technologies and adapt to change. - Ability to communicate effectively throughout organization. Other Essential Requirements - 5 years’ experience as software engineer with a strong development background. - College degree in Computer Science, certification or experience.

Position Description: Position Summary The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is an exciting and prestigious research facility that plays a vital role in the study of the universe. The Observatory operates a variety of radio telescopes that span the globe, including the famous Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico, the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) across North America, and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. These telescopes are among the most advanced in the world, allowing astronomers to explore the universe in unprecedented detail. At NRAO, we are recruiting a Software Engineer to plan, design, and implement new systems to be initially used for the several upcoming projects, including the next generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) and Radar, which uses the GBT and VLBA telescopes. This position ideally will be based either in Charlottesville, VA. For well qualified candidates, a remote work arrangement may be considered after one year of employment. What You Will be Doing The primary focus of this position will be designing and prototyping software for the ngVLA project. This will include working with senior software engineers and stakeholders to refine requirements, designing systems and components to meet those requirements, performing trade studies, building prototypes, and producing documentation and reports summarizing your findings. Immediate activities may include (but are not limited to): - prototyping the domain model - exploring existing frameworks for instructions needed to carry out the observation - building prototype data repositories - benchmarking and testing data transport software - other prototyping activities needed by the project This position will be directly involved in the early implementation and testing of key software features needed to support the ngVLA and Radar projects. The position will also participate in the full implementation during the construction phase.
