About the Team The Mobile Monetization team builds and maintains the subscription, payments, and promotional offer experiences across Crunchyroll's iOS and Android applications. Our mission is to deliver a seamless, reliable, and conversion-optimized monetization experience for our global audience — from the moment a fan starts a free trial to the moment they become a lifelong subscriber. We own the full monetization surface across mobile platforms: subscriptions and plan management, StoreKit 2 and Google Play Billing, promotional and introductory offers, winback flows, cancel rescue, and free trials. Our work directly impacts Crunchyroll's revenue and fan retention at scale. We embody Crunchyroll's collaborative spirit and work closely with product, finance, legal, and other platform teams to engineer scalable, compliant, and high-impact monetization solutions across all client platforms. About the Role We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Mobile Monetization team. This role is pivotal in driving the technical vision, roadmap, and delivery of monetization features across iOS and Android. You will lead a talented, cross-platform team of engineers and work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, finance, and legal stakeholders to deliver experiences that grow revenue and delight fans. As the Senior Engineering Manager, Mobile Monetization, you will mentor, inspire, and grow the team while ensuring that we deliver high-quality, performant, and scalable solutions that meet our users' needs and business goals. You will have ownership over the development process, team performance, and be a key contributor to strategic decisions. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, working from our SF office three days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In this role, you will report to the VP of Engineering, Fan Experiences. What You'll Do - Run the day-to-day operations of the engineering team and manage scrum ceremonies such as grooming, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. - Lead and mentor a cross-platform team of iOS and Android engineers to ensure the adoption of best practices, architectural standards, and scalability, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. - Own and drive the technical roadmap for mobile monetization — including subscriptions, StoreKit 2, Google Play Billing, promotional offers, winback, free trials, and plan management — aligning with business objectives and revenue goals. - Define, track, and improve key monetization metrics including conversion rate, free trial activation, cancel rescue effectiveness, and churn — translating data into actionable roadmap decisions. - Partner with product, data science, and growth teams to design, ship, and measure A/B tests and pricing experiments at consumer scale, using experimentation to continuously optimize the monetization funnel. - Manage partner platform dependencies — including Apple and Google billing API changes, entitlement system updates, and platform policy changes — ensuring the team can respond rapidly without disrupting revenue flows. - Ensure revenue-critical system health through robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices; lead root cause analyses for monetization-impacting outages and drive systemic prevention. - Work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams (Product, Finance, Legal, Marketing) to understand requirements, gather feedback, and communicate project progress and status updates. - Navigate compliance and regulatory requirements — including global privacy regulations, age assurance laws, regional pricing obligations, and app store policy changes — ensuring the monetization platform remains compliant without compromising delivery velocity. - Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and budgeting to ensure timely and successful delivery of projects. - Monitor team performance and productivity, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to optimize efficiency. - Conduct regular one-to-one meetings with team members to provide feedback, support their career development, and manage performance. - Actively participate in hiring and onboarding processes to attract top talent and build a skilled, cross-platform engineering team. About You We get excited about candidates, like you, because... - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. - Minimum 8 years of experience building native mobile applications across iOS and/or Android. - Proven experience managing and leading engineering teams, with at least 5+ years of direct people management experience. - Deep understanding of mobile monetization systems — including StoreKit, StoreKit 2, Google Play Billing, subscription lifecycle management, promotional offers, and payment flows. - Experience owning revenue-critical engineering domains where reliability, correctness, and compliance are non-negotiable — and where a bug in a payment flow is a fan who didn't become a subscriber. - Demonstrated ability to define and drive a monetization technical roadmap in partnership with product, finance, and legal stakeholders, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform investments. - Track record of using data and experimentation to drive monetization outcomes — including owning funnels, conversion metrics, and A/B testing at consumer scale. - Extensive knowledge of architecture and design patterns for building reliable, secure, and scalable mobile applications. - Proficiency in Swift and/or Kotlin, with experience in modern iOS and Android frameworks and technologies. - Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders including Finance, Legal, and Marketing. - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to foresee long-term product goals and define a roadmap. Bonus Points - Experience with subscription management platforms or entitlement systems at scale. - Familiarity with global payment compliance, tax handling, regional pricing strategies, or age assurance regulatory requirements. - Experience managing engineering delivery across third-party platform dependencies — Apple, Google Play, Roku, PlayStation, or similar — with a track record of navigating partner constraints and policy changes. - Background in designing or scaling offer management systems, including targeted promotions, introductory pricing, and winback campaigns. - Experience with pricing experimentation or cohort analysis in a DTC subscription business. - Familiarity with GDPR, COPPA, ATT, or other privacy and compliance frameworks as they apply to mobile monetization.
