Title: Sr. Export Control Specialist Location: Remote (United States) Job Description: time type Full time job requisition id R23783 Lanteris Space Systems is seeking a Senior Export Control Specialist to join our centralized compliance function supporting our satellite and spacecraft manufacturing operation in our Palo Alto CA offices. This position may also be performed remotely within the U. S. with periodic travel required to Lanteris facilities and customer locations. This strategic export control position enables compliant execution of programs across our diverse portfolio of commercial and defense customers. You will partner closely with engineering, legal, programs, security, contracts, and supply chain teams to enable lawful and efficient international business activities. You will be responsible for performing export jurisdiction and classification analyses, preparing and managing export authorizations, and advising internal stakeholders on regulatory requirements under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). This role requires independent technical judgment, regulatory fluency, and the ability to integrate export control requirements into complex satellite programs across the full lifecycle—from design and development through launch, in-orbit operations, and end-of-life activities. Key Responsibilities Export Classification & Licensing - Perform jurisdiction and classification determinations for spacecraft, satellites, subsystems, components, and technical data under ITAR (including USML Category XV) and EAR (including 9A515, 9E515, and related 600-/500-series controls), with documented rationales consistent with regulatory text and agency guidance - Prepare, submit, and manage export authorizations including TAAs, MLAs, DSP-5/DSP-73 licenses, and BIS licenses via SNAP-R, supporting full program lifecycle from design through end-of-life - Analyze and implement license provisos and conditions, manage reexport/retransfer requirements, and maintain licensing records across multiple concurrent programs - Coordinate with engineering and legal to resolve complex classification questions and escalate as appropriate Regulatory & Stakeholder Interface - Interface directly with DDTC (via DECCS) and BIS on license applications, proviso clarifications, and regulatory inquiries as directed by compliance leadership - Advise cross-functional stakeholders on export control requirements impacting technical data releases, program execution, international collaboration, contract formation, and foreign party engagements - Collaborate with engineering, business development, legal, programs, security, contracts, and supply chain teams to integrate export control requirements into spacecraft program planning and execution - Support export control aspects of space insurance processes, including reviewing disclosures to brokers/underwriters and coordinating licensing for launch risk and in-orbit operations coverage - May support functions aligned with Empowered Official responsibilities; does not independently exercise EO authority unless formally designated Compliance Program Support - Support implementation of Lanteris export control policies, procedures, and training programs. Develop and maintain associated databases, reports and documentation - Assist with internal audits, assessments, continuous improvement initiatives, and compliance with CUI handling requirements under DFARS 252.204-7012 where applicable - Assist with supplier risk evaluation in conducting thorough due diligence during supplier onboarding and identify potential disruptions - Contribute to the development and maintenance of Lanteris' export compliance program - Assists in the classification of Lanteris products, software and technologies according to import and export control requirements Minimum Requirements - Must be a U.S. citizen with eligibility and willingness to obtain a security clearance - Bachelor's degree. A master’s degree may account for an additional two years of experience - 8 years of relevant export control experience - Experience performing jurisdiction and classification determinations under ITAR (including USML Category XV) and EAR (including 9A515, 9E515, and related 600-/500-series controls) - Experience preparing and managing TAAs (required), MLAs, DSP-5/DSP-73 licenses, and BIS license applications - Direct experience interfacing with DDTC (via DECCS) and BIS (via SNAP-R or equivalent) - Proven ability to advise cross-functional stakeholders and integrate export control requirements into complex technical programs Preferred Qualifications - Experience in satellite or spacecraft manufacturing environments supporting full program lifecycle (design through end-of-life). REPORTS TO Assistant Director of Residential Life for Amenities QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, digital media, industrial design, game development, arts, or a closely related field - Two years professional experience managing a maker, fabrication, digital-media, or esports/gaming facility with responsibility for scheduling, budgeting, and technology upkeep. - Hands-on technical proficiency with a broad toolset, including FDM/SLA 3-D printers, CO₂ laser cutters, entry-level CNC routers, basic wood- and metal-shop equipment, digital sewing/embroidery machines, multi-track audio-recording gear, high-spec gaming PCs/consoles, and VR/AR hardware - Demonstrated collaboration with Residence Life, K–12 outreach, or comparable student-facing programs, showing an understanding of developmental theory and co-curricular learning models. - Excellent written and oral communication skills with meticulous attention to detail; able to create instructional materials, grant narratives, and technical documentation for diverse audiences. - Proven ability to partner across departments (e.g., Engineering, DXARTS, Computer Science, Athletics, Conference Services) to design experiential and co-curricular learning opportunities. - Experience securing external resources—familiarity with basic grant writing, sponsorship cultivation, or revenue-share models for programs and events. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Master’s degree in higher education, computer science, engineering, arts, or a closely related discipline. - Deep knowledge of the collegiate esports’ ecosystem, including competitive formats, broadcast/streaming workflows, and athlete development. - Successful track record of grant acquisition or auxiliary-revenue growth, especially for maker or media initiatives. - Demonstrated experience designing, marketing and executing large-scale workshops or experiential events, such as hackathons, maker summits, esports tournaments, or campus-wide showcases involving multi-department coordination and 100+ participants - Formal project-management credential (CAPM, PMP, or Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt) indicating the ability to deliver complex technology refreshes on time and on budget. The Surge Closeout Support Specialist will support both the home-office and project-office providing operational leadership for day-to-day compliance and financial oversight. This position will collaborate with ERA home-office and project-office leadership staff to ensure adherence to task order and address risk mitigation measures as well as ensure adherence with company policies, applicable law and regulations, and client requirements. Escalate complex matters to leadership as needed. • Monitor and support project operations, for procurements, subcontracts and administrative process to align with required standards in coordination with the Implementation Director and Deputy Chief of Party-Operations • Coordinate with project office to address requests and ensure timely completion of tasks. • Develop risk mitigation strategies and lead problem-solving with project office staff. • Other billable duties as assigned Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree; master's degree preferred • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience; including financial oversight and compliance required • At least one year managing employees or teams • Thorough understanding of donor/client regulatory and contract management • Demonstrated experience working on one or more projects • In-depth knowledge of project closeout, regulations, and Chemonics’ internal processes • Excellent organizational and communication skills • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively • Willingness to travel up to 8 weeks per year • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity. • Demonstrates knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts and tools, with the ability to apply them appropriately and responsibly to support efficiency, decision making, and problem solving in a dynamic business environment.
