Electrical Engineer – Natural Gas
Intersect Power
• Provide deep technical expertise and oversight for upcoming natural gas power plant projects • Support project team by reviewing, validating, and ensuring technical integrity of designs and execution plans • Serve in a technical Owner's Engineer capacity, supporting project development, contracting, design review, and execution through commissioning and startup • Lead technical activities for design, engineering, and construction of power plants utilizing natural gas reciprocating engines and/or gas turbines • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for electrical systems associated with power generation facilities • Set and document the electrical basis of design, develop the electrical scope of work, and define key system requirements and performance criteria • Guide and review technical deliverables from external contractors • Collaborate with other technical disciplines to ensure project integration and completeness • Support the procurement process by preparing specifications and making vendor recommendations • Review engineering documents and participate in design and technical review meetings • Ensure designs comply with applicable utility, grid interconnection, safety, and industry standards • Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to schedule and quality standards • Support construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities related to plant electrical systems • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and support development of junior engineers through mentoring, coaching, and design guidance
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent strongly preferred.
- 8 or more years of progressive experience in electrical engineering roles within the power generation, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Extensive technical expertise in the design, construction, and operation of natural gas power plants, with in-depth knowledge of electrical systems for reciprocating engine and gas turbine facilities, including simple cycle and combined cycle configurations where applicable.
- Proven experience in reviewing and validating complex electrical designs from EPC contractors for large-scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of medium-voltage and high-voltage power systems, generator interconnection, protection and control philosophies, relay coordination and settings development, plant distribution systems, motor control, and power system studies.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and utility or interconnection requirements.
- Experience leading detailed design reviews and providing technical oversight for major electrical systems on utility-scale power generation projects; engineer-of-record experience is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and provide strong technical leadership.
