Gameplay Engineer

• Design, develop, and implement polished gameplay content that demonstrates platform capabilities and new features • Create example projects such as mini‑games, custom gameplay scenarios, and interactive environments to showcase best practices • Develop and maintain scripts, configuration files, and content definitions to support custom gameplay systems • Translate complex technical or platform requirements into clear, working gameplay examples • Contribute to technical documentation, tutorials, and internal guidance that support external creators • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and stakeholders to validate and refine gameplay experiences • Analyze gameplay behavior and technical performance to ensure quality, stability, and usability • Follow iterative and agile development processes, adapting quickly to evolving requirements • Ensure code, content, and tools meet quality, security, and compliance standards

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field
  • 2–4 years of professional or equivalent hands‑on experience in game or gameplay development
  • Demonstrated experience building game content, mods, add‑ons, or extensions for moddable game platforms
  • Strong scripting experience (TypeScript or JavaScript preferred), particularly in gameplay or content systems
  • Hands‑on experience with gameplay logic, entity/item definitions, configuration files, and scripting APIs
  • Experience designing, developing, and delivering projects from concept through completion
  • Familiarity with iterative and agile development methodologies
  • Ability to analyze complex requirements and translate them into clear, functional gameplay solutions

Role Description We’re looking for a Gameplay Engineer with a strong C++ focus to join our team as we move into full production on our debut game Ardem, an open world survival game developed in Unreal Engine 5. In this role, you will work hands-on on gameplay systems and features, owning them end-to-end from implementation to iteration and polish. You will collaborate closely with design, art, and tech, independently gather the input needed to move your features forward, and report progress and decisions to your Lead. The role requires confidence in working across disciplines and taking responsibility for complex gameplay systems within a production environment. If you enjoy taking responsibility for certain aspects of the game, are passionate about working on or playing open world survival games, and want to grow alongside a collaborative, motivated team, we’d love to hear from you. Tasks - Take ownership of assigned gameplay features, ensuring they are fully implemented, polished, and aligned across involved disciplines. - Design, implement, and maintain core gameplay systems within Unreal Engine 5, working primarily in C++ with a strong focus on replication and performance. - Debug, fix, and optimize gameplay related issues throughout the production process. - Collaborate closely with designers, artists, and other engineers to deliver cohesive and well integrated gameplay systems. - Report progress, risks, and technical decisions to the Technical Director. Qualifications - 3 to 5 years of professional experience as a gameplay or game programmer. - Strong C++ skills with a focus on clean, maintainable, and performant code. - Solid experience working with Unreal Engine, especially its gameplay framework. - Deep understanding of the Unreal Network Stack, including the Push Model. - Strong skills with debugging and profiling tools. - Ability to work independently, take responsibility for features, and drive them forward. - Strong communication skills with fluent spoken and written English. Requirements - Experience working on open world or survival games. - Prior experience developing multiplayer or online gameplay systems. - Experience with AI related gameplay systems. - Experience working in an indie or small team environment.
