Role Description Blackbaud is looking for a talented attorney to serve as Counsel in the Blackbaud Law Department. As Counsel for Blackbaud, you will support both the employment and privacy law functions. This role is ideal for a recently qualified lawyer with early career experience seeking to develop expertise in both employment and privacy law within a collaborative legal team. - Assist in providing day-to-day legal advice on employment law matters, including hiring, discipline, performance management, terminations, and workplace policies. - Monitor developments in and support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and help update internal guidance accordingly. - Assist in the drafting and maintenance of employee handbooks and workplace policies. - Assist in providing advice on privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, CAN-SPAM, GDPR, PIPEDA, and US state laws such as CCPA, as well as industry and customer requirements for data protection. - Respond to user and customer requests, complaints, or queries relating to our privacy and data protection practices. - Assist in the drafting and maintenance of privacy-related policies and contractual terms. - Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting privacy, security, and artificial intelligence and help update internal guidance accordingly. - Support and communicate with business constituents including Human Resources and Products professionals. - Potential to work occasionally on commercial contracts as needed. - Collaborate with other members of the Blackbaud Law Department. Qualifications - Juris Doctor with strong academic credentials from an accredited law school. - Licensed to practice law and a member of good standing in at least one state bar. - 0-3 years of post-qualification experience, with some exposure to employment or privacy law preferred. - Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate legal exposure and manage risk. - Process improvement and project management experience.
