Job Description

Backend QA Engineer

Air Apps

• Design and execute tests for backend systems, including APIs, databases, and service integrations. • Validate API functionality and performance using tools such as Postman, Swagger, or similar platforms. • Test and verify database operations, queries, and data integrity in systems using PostgreSQL or similar relational databases. • Collaborate with engineering teams to review pull requests, ensuring code quality and test coverage. • Support the development and maintenance of automated tests for backend services. • Participate in reviewing backend infrastructure and identifying potential reliability or performance issues. • Document and track defects, test cases, and test results using test management tools such as TestRail or similar systems. • Work closely with developers and product teams to improve testing strategies and overall product quality.

Job Requirements

  • Approximately 2–3 years of experience working with backend technologies, testing, or software development in test roles.
  • Experience with Node.js and TypeScript in backend environments.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and experience validating database queries and data integrity.
  • Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman, Swagger, or similar API testing tools.
  • Understanding of backend testing practices, including API testing, database testing, and integration testing.
  • Familiarity with test management tools such as TestRail or comparable platforms is beneficial.
  • Comfort reviewing pull requests and backend architecture changes to help ensure quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Role Description Surrey Place is seeking a detail-oriented student to join our team as a Quality Assurance Officer. In this entry-level role, you will work side-by-side with our team of developers to ensure our digital products are accessible, user-friendly, and function flawlessly. This is a learning-intensive role where your classroom knowledge of accessibility standards, user experience (UX) principles, and testing methodologies will be applied in a real-world setting. Prior industry experience is not required but an asset. Main Responsibilities - Perform accessibility testing against WCAG 2.1 guidelines, conduct screen reader walkthroughs, keyboard-only navigation audits, and document remediation steps with severity and recommended fixes for engineering. - Conduct A/B and multivariate experiment analyses in partnership with Dev teams to validate design hypotheses, set up experiment instrumentation, and measure impact on conversion, retention, and key UX metrics. - Participate in user feedback sessions, internal product discussions, and design critiques. - Support responsive design efforts to ensure optimal user experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. - Assist in conducting UX research to understand user needs and behaviors. Job Duties & Responsibilities - Effectively performs the duties of a Senior Quality Control Coordinator, demonstrating strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently. - Reviews and critically analyzes documents for accuracy in content for assigned submission types. - Provides clear feedback to communicate errors to Research Services staff regarding missing and/or incomplete elements. - Accomplishes daily workload priorities with flexibility and adaptability. - Executes procedures in compliance with internal quality standards and external regulations. - Supports supervisor or director vision of team performance through timely processing of delegated tasks, appropriate escalation of workflow concerns, and proactive process improvement suggestions. - Models QC best practices through peer-to-peer training and mentorship. - Serves as a resource for process or workflow problem-solving, including root cause analysis and data mining. - Proposes and advocates adoption of team success metrics. - Provides process improvement suggestions to management. - Participates in team and department professional and personal development initiatives while maintaining a high level of integrity through cooperative and respectful interactions with colleagues. - Performs quality control of all submission types (initial protocol and site submissions, all modifications). - Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in health science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Intermediate knowledge of Federal laws and guidelines pertaining to Human Subjects Research Protection. - Two (2)+ years of IRB, clinical research, or quality control experience. - Proficient with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. - Familiar with PowerPoint, direct messaging applications such as Slack, remote meeting applications such as Zoom, and web-based proprietary software. Preferred Qualifications - Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or attainment within one (1) year of eligibility. Requirements - Sit or stand for extended periods of time at a stationary workstation. - Regularly carry, raise, and lower objects of up to 10 lbs. - Learn and comprehend basic instructions. - Focus and attention to tasks and responsibilities. - Verbal communication; listening and understanding, responding, and speaking.
