Role Description We are seeking a skilled Kubernetes Administrator and Application Developer to join our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building cloud-native Kubernetes applications and administration of Kubernetes clusters, particularly with RH OpenShift, in bare-metal environments. - Collaborate with application development teams to deploy, scale, and manage cloud-native applications. - Administer and maintain Kubernetes clusters on bare metal and OpenShift platforms. - Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize cluster performance and reliability. - Automate operational tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Helm). - Ensure security best practices and compliance standards within the clusters. Qualifications - Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements. - Bachelor's Degree - Computer Science or related field (Required). - Or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required. - Proven experience developing and deploying cloud-native Kubernetes applications. - Scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation. - Linux administration skills (preferred). - Hands-on experience administering Kubernetes clusters (bare metal and/or public cloud environments). - Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (preferred). - Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security within Kubernetes. Role Description The Infrastructure Systems Engineering team is in the midst of building our next-generation private cloud infrastructure as part of a greenfield initiative to in-house existing internal use cases on public cloud and support new initiatives. The historical deployment primarily supported our database test system: A system that runs over 7.25 million tests per month, writes petabytes to storage daily, and we’re currently scaling multiple times in the next year alone. As a Software Engineer, Private Cloud Systems, you will be tasked with the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems at lower abstraction levels. You’ll collaborate closely with a small, highly skilled team to drive a careful balance between battle-hardened best practices and creative innovation in an environment that embraces working from first principles, celebration of failure, and egoless technical discussion. Qualifications - At least 5 years of experience developing and optimizing systems software. - Deep expertise in at least one of: - virtualization - storage - service modeling & REST API/SDK generation - scientific or high-performance computing - kernel development - Natural curiosity or drive to learn about new or adjacent technologies. - Experience designing, developing, and/or troubleshooting distributed systems. - Comfort with at least one systems programming language (C/C++, golang) and one scripting language (python, bash). - Comfort with shells on *nix family systems. - B.S. degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field. • Support the management of user permissions across multiple tools and systems, including AWS IAM. • Help maintain and improve our security tooling, including endpoint protection solutions and infrastructure monitoring tools that help protect our cloud environment and internal systems. • Assist with monitoring security alerts and investigating unusual events. • Review infrastructure-related Terraform pull requests to help ensure new resources are deployed securely and follow cloud security best practices. • Monitor relevant security advisories and threat intelligence feeds.

• Design and evolve GCP-based infrastructure architecture for scalability, resilience, and security. • Define standards for: • Project and environment structure • Multi-region deployments • High availability and failover strategies • Lead architectural reviews for high-impact infrastructure changes. • Ensure infrastructure supports high-scale, multi-tenant SaaS workloads. • Architect and optimize Kubernetes (GKE) platforms for production workloads. • Define and enforce: • Cluster architecture and node pool strategies • Workload isolation and scheduling policies • Upgrade and lifecycle management strategies • Improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency of Kubernetes environments. • Design and manage secure and scalable cloud networking: • VPCs, subnets, routing, and firewalls • Load balancing and traffic routing • Own integration with Cloudflare, including: • CDN configuration • WAF rules and DDoS protection • Edge security and traffic management • Ensure low-latency, resilient, and secure traffic flows. • Design and enforce least-privilege IAM architecture across GCP and platform systems. • Define standards for: • Service accounts and roles • Access control policies • Just-in-time access and auditing • Partner with Cyber Security to continuously improve access posture and reduce risk. • Build and enforce secure-by-default infrastructure patterns. • Partner closely with Cyber Security teams to: • Identify and remediate vulnerabilities • Implement security controls and guardrails • Support threat modeling and risk assessments • Secure Kubernetes workloads, networking layers, and cloud services. • Drive adoption and quality of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform. • Build reusable infrastructure modules and automation frameworks. • Ensure infrastructure changes are Auditable, Repeatable & Safe • Reduce manual operational work through automation. • Design and improve disaster recovery (DR) and failover strategies. • Define and validate RTO / RPO objectives. • Partner with SRE teams to improve Incident response, System resilience & Operational readiness. • Participate in postmortems and drive systemic improvements. • Identify infrastructure inefficiencies and performance bottlenecks. • Partner with FinOps and Cloud teams to: • Optimize resource utilization • Improve cost visibility and predictability • Balance performance, reliability, and cost in architectural decisions. • Act as a technical leader across Cloud Infrastructure and Security domains. • Mentor SDE2, SDE3, and Lead engineers. • Drive design reviews, architecture discussions, and best practices. • Influence teams across the organization without direct authority. • Work closely with: • Platform Engineering (CI/CD, DevEx) • SRE & InfraOps (operations and reliability) • Cyber Security teams (security and compliance) • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
