Corporate Counsel – Business Legal
Assurant
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, customer agreements, SaaS and technology licenses, and procurement arrangements. • Provide legal advice to internal business teams on contractual obligations, risk management, and compliance in connection with commercial transactions. • Lead and support B2B negotiations, ensuring favorable and defensible terms while maintaining strong business relationships. • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Compliance, Risk Management, Procurement, Finance, and Operations to support business objectives. • Support all aspects of contract lifecycle management, including amendments, renewals, and dispute resolution. • Stay current on applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices impacting commercial transactions. • Embed within assigned business units to understand strategic objectives, key risk drivers, and profitability levers. • Identify and advise on potential legal risks impacting existing businesses, new ventures, and product offerings.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active law license in good standing.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience at a law firm or in-house legal department advising on general business and commercial contractual matters.
- Experience supporting technology, insurance, or extended service contract businesses is preferred.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills for complex commercial agreements.
- Highly autonomous and self-motivated, with strong judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency.
- Strong business acumen, including the ability to understand business strategy and basic financial concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues and recommend sound, defensible solutions.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders at all levels.
