Senior Backend Engineer - Rails, AI
Map SsgA venture-backed startup building a modern data platform for the real estate industry, enabling automation, analytics, and AI-powered workflows for real estate operators. The team includes engineers and leaders from companies such as major fintech, cloud, and consumer technology platforms, and is focused on solving complex infrastructure and data challenges in a large, underserved industry.
Role Description Join as a Backend Engineer and help rebuild payments for the >$1tn distribution industry. You’ll architect and build the systems that process millions of dollars in transactions daily, integrate with complex ERP systems, and leverage cutting-edge LLM technology to transform how distributors manage their revenue cycles. You’ll join a small team of A+ players where everyone acts as an individual contributor while actively supporting each other through pair programming and collaborative problem-solving. You’ll work closely with our founder-led team who previously operated a distribution business and understand the real-world problems we’re solving. Who Thrives Here - AI-Native: You already use Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar every single day. You treat AI as a pair programmer, not a toy or a threat. - Product-minded: You obsess over the “why” behind features, dig into customer data (or talk to customers), and measure success in revenue and user love — not story points. - Ownership > tasks: You hate being blocked. When something is unclear or broken, you prototype, reach out directly, pair, or just ship a pragmatic solution. - Builder mentality: Strong opinions, weakly held. You default to shipping the simplest thing that works (often with AI help), then iterate fast. What You’ll Own - High-volume payment processing systems and secure financial APIs - Deep integrations with major ERPs (NetSuite, Sage, Acumatica, etc.) - LLM-powered workflows (credit decisions, remittance matching, automated comms) - Real-time data pipelines handling millions of financial records - AR / collections automation that directly impacts customer cash flow Qualifications - 4+ years of backend experience with strong system design chops - Expert-level Ruby on Rails (Rails 7+, Ruby 3+) — our core backend is modern Rails and you’ll own huge parts of it from day one → Exceptional candidates with deep experience in Django, Laravel, Spring Boot, or similar who are excited to go all-in on Rails will be considered - Advanced PostgreSQL (query optimization, large datasets, logical replication, etc.) - Proven ability to design clean, versioned REST/JSON APIs - Experience shipping and operating ETL/background-job heavy systems in production Bonus Points - Built or maintained third-party integrations with enterprise software - Real fintech, payments, or billing experience (Stripe, ACH, lockbox, etc.) - Hands-on LLM integration or prompt engineering (bonus if you’ve shipped it to production) - Previously worked at a Series A–C startup and loved the chaos Tech Stack - Backend: Rails 7+, PostgreSQL, Sidekiq, Redis - Infra: AWS, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD - AI: OpenAI / Anthropic APIs, vector DBs, Cursor/Claude daily - Security: Bank-grade encryption, SOC 2 in progress Engineering Culture True end-to-end ownership — no PMs writing pixel-perfect specs. We pair program (human + AI), ship daily, write tests that matter, and refactor mercilessly. AI tools are first-class citizens here: we expect you to 10× your output with them and help us push the boundaries of what’s possible in fintech automation. Benefits - 🌴 Flexible paid time off so you can recharge. - 🏋️ Up to $100/mo wellness reimbursements. - 📈 A competitive stock option grant, so you have skin in the game. - ⚕️ Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% of premiums paid by us. - 📍 Quarterly team gatherings for periodic in-person collaborative strategy and work sessions. - 👫 A passionate, supportive team dedicated to learning and growing together.
