As a Substation Engineer, you'll tackle dynamic projects that blend your technical expertise with creative problem-solving, including: - Crafting and developing conceptual designs for electrical substations based on client specifications and project needs. - Performing critical technical analyses and calculations to ensure systems operate safely and effectively. - Troubleshooting electrical challenges and implementing innovative solutions to optimize substation performance. - Ensuring designs and operations meet industry standards, codes, and regulations. - Visiting project sites to assess existing substation conditions and recommend improvements. - Collaborating with clients to deliver impactful utility project solutions. - Supporting construction planning and project execution. - Managing communication with project teams and department leaders to keep projects on track. Qualifications - A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field plus 2+ years of experience in utilities, consulting, or similar industries. - Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification is preferred. - Coursework or experience in power systems, electrical design, protection systems, and substations is a plus. - Additional certifications in substation design or project management are a bonus. Requirements - Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, particularly in high and medium voltage systems. - Familiarity with power system analysis, protection methods, and industry equipment/vendors. - Proficiency with AutoCAD and the MS Office Suite. - Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. - Exceptional attention to detail and technical accuracy. - Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with clients and teams. Role Description The Middleware Engineer designs, deploys, and maintains middleware platforms that support integration, messaging, and application hosting for mission‑critical systems in a federal IT environment. The role manages provisioning, configuration, performance tuning, and lifecycle management of middleware components across on‑premises and cloud environments, ensuring stability, resilience, and compliance with security standards. The Middleware Engineer collaborates with application owners, database administrators, and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot complex multi‑tier issues and optimize end‑to‑end service performance, while documenting middleware architectures and runbooks to support continuity and disaster‑recovery objectives. Key Responsibilities - Install, configure, and administer middleware technologies such as application servers, web servers, and integration platforms supporting enterprise workloads. - Monitor middleware availability, throughput, and error rates, tuning thread pools, connection settings, and caching to maintain performance and stability across environments. - Implement secure configuration baselines, TLS configurations, and access controls for middleware components in alignment with organizational security policies and standards. - Plan and execute middleware patching, upgrades, and migrations, coordinating with change management processes to minimize downtime and service disruption. - Develop and maintain detailed runbooks, configuration documentation, inventory records, and topology diagrams to support operations, audits, and continuity planning. - Collaborate with application and database teams to diagnose and resolve complex performance and reliability issues that span multiple infrastructure tiers. - Support backup and recovery operations, continuity of operations activities, and lifecycle support plans for middleware installations in highly regulated environments. - Evaluate new middleware capabilities, tools, and practices, recommending enhancements that improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency. The Biomedical Technician / Equipment Support Specialist performs installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment. The role ensures medical equipment remains safe, functional, and compliant with VA biomedical engineering standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements. Personnel work closely with VA Biomedical Engineering staff, clinical personnel, manufacturers, and IT personnel to ensure the availability and reliability of equipment that supports patient care.
