Role Description GPM Investments, LLC is hiring its first in-house litigator to build and own the company's litigation function. Joining an eight-attorney legal team, this attorney will manage a diverse portfolio of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including: - Active case handling - Outside counsel oversight - Discovery management - Subpoena compliance - Debt collection This position is remote-eligible with a hybrid arrangement available for candidates near GPM’s Richmond, VA or Dallas, TX offices. The title (Litigation Counsel or Senior Litigation Counsel) will depend on the candidate's experience. This position will report to the General Counsel or a Deputy General Counsel. Salary: $120k Responsibilities - Litigate matters on behalf of the company (as either plaintiff or defendant) in jurisdictions where licensed or admitted pro hac vice, in conjunction with local counsel - Coordinate with and manage outside counsel on active litigation matters, including reviewing invoices, monitoring case strategy, and tracking deadlines - Serve as the primary legal point of contact for internal business teams on litigation-related inquiries - Conduct pre-litigation demand responses, early case assessments, and settlement evaluations - Support regulatory inquiries and government investigations as needed - Review, respond to, and track third-party subpoenas (civil, criminal, and administrative), coordinating with internal departments to collect responsive documents and information - Manage litigation holds, document preservation, and discovery responses in pending and threatened litigation - Involvement in the company's garnishment process, including wage garnishments, tax levies, and child support orders, in conjunction with the Associate General Counsel, and in coordination with Payroll and Human Resources - Draft and review correspondence, declarations, and other litigation and pre-litigation-related documents, including demand letters and notices of default - Maintain and update the litigation and claims tracker, providing regular status reports to senior leadership - Review and improve standard form agreements (including landlord/tenant agreements) based on insights from litigation trends and historical claims - Identify process improvements to increase efficiency in subpoena response, discovery workflows, and garnishment handling Qualifications - Solid analytical/logical mindset and attention to detail - Strong written/verbal communication skills (clear, concise, and confident) - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent matters - Self-motivated and able to prioritize under tight time constraints - Ability to work both autonomously and in a team setting - Comfort working cross-functionally with non-legal teams such as Operations, HR, Payroll, and Real Estate Management - Experience handling both plaintiff-side and defense-side litigation - Juris Doctorate - Active bar membership in good standing (admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions preferred: Virginia or Texas) - 2–5 years of litigation experience - Familiarity with federal and state rules of civil procedure, e-discovery principles, and subpoena compliance requirements Company Description GPM Investments, LLC is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in employment and personnel practices on the basis of race, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation or any other basis prohibited by applicable law.
