You can read more about our AI interview philosophy and how we use AI in our recruiting process here. Millions of people around the globe look to Pinterest to find new ideas, get inspired, and create a life they love. Our mission is to help them on that journey by delivering delightful and intuitive experiences—which starts with the quality and consistency of our design foundation. We’re seeking a Staff Product Designer to join our Personalisation Patterns team: a hands-on, horizontal leader focused on systematizing quality and advocating for world-class experiences across Pinterest’s core surfaces. You'll shape the next generation of Pinterest’s design systems and component libraries, partner with cross-functional teams, and help us deliver on our ambitious mission in an effective, scalable, and human-centered way. This is a role for a rare blend: a designer who’s part methodological systems thinker, part craft champion, and part design technologist. The impact you’ll have will stretch across teams, product lines, and the very building blocks of Pinterest. What you’ll do: - Drive System Quality: Lead the stewardship, evolution, and adoption of our core design patterns, component libraries, and gestalt subsystems—ensuring cohesive, delightful, and accessible user experiences at scale. - Partner Horizontally: Act as a strategic advisor and a hands-on partner to product, engineering, and design teams across Personalisation and core surfaces, empowering them to leverage best-in-class patterns and ship with confidence. - Advance Systemic Thinking: Apply methodical, systematic approaches to pattern creation: balancing product usability, craft, accessibility, and business needs—with input from a wide range of stakeholders. - Prototype & Technologize: Rapidly visualize, prototype, and validate new ideas; translate abstract solutions into practical, scalable patterns using Figma, code, AI, or whatever is needed to inspire clarity and adoption. - Uphold and Elevate Craft: Conduct quality audits, review flows and handoffs, and directly contribute hands-on design when needed—always advocating for the highest standards. - Mentor & Scale Impact: Inspire and guide other designers in craft, systemic thinking, and best practices through critique, guidance, and sharing your expertise across teams. - Champion Accessibility & Inclusion: Ensure our design systems support diverse user needs and raise the bar on inclusion and accessibility from the ground up. - Communicate & Influence: Clearly articulate your design thinking, rationale, and vision—presenting work to teams, leaders, and executives, and rallying consensus. What we’re looking for: - 8+ years of experience in product design, with significant time spent driving or evolving design systems or pattern libraries. - Portfolio demonstrating polished interface design, systemic thinking, component-based UIs, and tangible influence across large organizations. - Track record in staff/principal-level roles, influencing horizontally, upholding design craft quality, and partnering cross-functionally—ideally in large-scale consumer or platform environments. - Design technologist mindset: Comfortable experimenting with Figma prototypes, AI, and (optionally) front-end code; curious and opinionated about technical feasibility, accessibility, and how we can streamline design workflows and processes through systems and tools. - Expert-level motion and visual design skills, with a deep understanding of principles and their impact on usability, comprehension, and overall experience quality — using animation and transitions to enhance clarity, convey emotion, and drive user engagement. - Excellent communicator who can synthesize ambiguity into actionable design problems and unite teams through clarity, documentation, and collaboration. - Growth mindset with a passion for ongoing learning, experimentation, and mentoring others. - Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and crafting systems that serve diverse audiences. - Please add the required language on equivalent experience or a degree in a relevant field. - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as design, or equivalent experience. - Bonus points for: - Experience leading platform-wide or multi-product design system initiatives. - Familiarity with personalization, large consumer apps, or rapid scale environments. - Contributions to public design systems, open-source libraries, or industry talks/writing. - Join us to shape the platform and patterns that power inspiration for millions—raising the bar for design quality, system integrity, and Pinterest’s positive potential. In-Office Requirement Statement: - We recognize that the ideal environment for work is situational and may differ across departments. What this looks like day-to-day can vary based on the needs of each organization or role. - This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times every 6-months, and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country. Relocation Statement: - This position is not eligible for relocation assistance. Role Description We’re seeking a founding product designer to help rebuild our offering from the ground up. No PRDs. No 18-month roadmaps. Just turning ideas into real product experiences in days and the mandate to ship something extraordinary. Planoly is an established, profitable platform trusted by 30,000+ creators, solopreneurs, and small content-first businesses. We have strong brand equity, deep creator-economy expertise, and a loyal customer base. We are entering our next phase of growth and we need someone who thinks in product and design first and is technical enough to bring those ideas to life. You will have a rare clean slate to build something truly new alongside a team steeped in marketing, the creator economy, and human-first advantage. If you love to build, iterate, and follow your intuition on product decisions, this is that role. What You’ll Do - You’ll own the full arc from product concept to shipped experience. - You will prototype what we build, design how it feels, and bring it to life independently (without the bloat of a full engineering cycle). - Shape product direction alongside leadership - identify what to build, for whom, and why it matters. - Build working prototypes and production-ready features, moving rapidly from idea to artifact. - Test concepts with users quickly and iterate in real time. - Champion craft and taste in every detail, maintaining the simplicity and design-forward roots that are core to Planoly’s history. - Help define the design system, interaction patterns, and front-end foundations for the next generation of the platform. - Collaborate daily with a small, senior team across product, engineering, and marketing. Who You Are - Product thinker first. Designer by obsession. Technical enough to ship. - You lead with a human-first product instinct. You get into the user's head fast and ship things that feel right. - You are obsessed with building great products and experiences for our community. - You can build what you design: rapid prototypes, proof of concepts, and working code. - Knowledgeable enough with front-end code (React) to collaborate with the engineering team. - You have strong opinions, loosely held. You’d rather test an idea than debate it. - You thrive in ambiguity and move with urgency. - You have a sharp eye for what “good” looks and feels like. - Bonus: experience in the creator economy, social media, or content tools. Benefits - Competitive salary commensurate with experience and a founding-level role. - Founding team level equity participation. - Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits. - Flexible PTO and a remote-first culture that trusts you to manage your time. - Annual team offsites and the occasional IRL jam session when it matters. How to Apply Skip the cover letter. Send us a link to something you’ve designed and built—a product, a prototype, a side project. We want to see how you think about product problems and how you bring ideas to life in addition to your résumé.
