Job Description

AI Operations Lead

WellTheory

About WellTheory WellTheory is a digital health company helping people with autoimmune conditions take control of their health through personalized care, nutrition guidance, and ongoing coaching. We're a team of 50+ passionate people who believe better care starts with better relationships. We're also building one of the most AI-forward organizations in healthcare—not by replacing our team with AI, but by making every person on our team dramatically more effective. About the Role We're looking for an AI Operations Lead to drive WellTheory's transition to an AI-native operating model. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role that sits at the intersection of building, teaching, and organizing. Today, our teams are already using AI in meaningful ways: our care team uses AI to draft Care Plans and analyze labs, our engineers have built AI-powered workflows to power care delivery and internal development, and our leadership team has created internal tools used across the company. But this is happening in pockets. We need someone to turn scattered experimentation into a systematic, scalable approach—building shared infrastructure, enabling every team, establishing governance, and measuring progress. This is a senior IC / player-coach role reporting to our Co-Founder Claire with a dotted line to our Head of People, and you'll work with every team in the company. What You'll Do - Build automations and tools that encode WellTheory's institutional workflows—from care plan creation to sales follow-ups to onboarding processes - Enable every team to work effectively with AI through training, workshops, office hours, and 1:1 coaching - Create a shared AI tool library and establish patterns that teams can use to build their own automations - Own AI governance: approved tools, data privacy protocols, QA processes for AI-generated content, compliance requirements - Design and maintain our AI measurement framework—tracking adoption, efficiency gains, and business impact - Partner with our Head of People to integrate AI fluency into learning paths, performance conversations, and team development - Report to leadership and the board on transformation progress You Might Be a Great Fit If You... - Have built AI-powered tools, automations, workflows, and agents that other people at your company use regularly - Are deeply fluent in modern AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.)—as a builder, not just a user - Get energy from both building things AND teaching people how to build their own - Can talk to an engineer about API integrations and a care team member about nutrition workflows with equal comfort - Default to "let me try it" rather than "let me write a plan for it" - Have worked in a fast-moving startup where you wore multiple hats - Care about doing this responsibly, especially in a healthcare context Bonus Points - Healthcare or health-tech experience - Experience designing training or enablement programs - Track record of leading operational or organizational transformation What We Offer - The chance to define and build the AI operating model for a mission-driven company from the ground up - A team that's already bought in and hungry to learn—this isn't a "convince people AI is important" job - Direct partnership with the Staff leadership team - A base salary range of $125,000 - $175,000. This range reflects the variety of backgrounds we're open to — placement within it depends on the technical depth and directly relevant skills you bring to the role. Additionally, this role includes equity, benefits, and remote work. At WellTheory, we're committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic team — so if you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't check every box, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might be exactly who we're looking for. WellTheory is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. If you require accommodations at any stage of our hiring process, please reach out to our hiring team. We're happy to work with you.
