Job Description Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Electrical Cost Estimator to support the delivery of large-scale, mission‑critical data center projects. This role is integral to the commercial planning and execution of highly technical facilities where electrical infrastructure represents a significant portion of overall project cost and risk. The Electrical Cost Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed electrical estimates for hyperscale data center projects, including high‑capacity power distribution, backup generation, and critical electrical systems. Working closely with engineers, contractors, and internal commercial teams, this role supports cost certainty, value optimization, and informed decision‑making throughout the project lifecycle. Candidates for this role must be physically based in the United States and legally authorized to work in the U.S. Remote work is permitted only from within the United States; candidates located outside the U.S. cannot be considered for remote employment. Preference will be given to candidates based in Pacific or Central U.S. time zones. Responsibilities: - Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates for data center projects, including medium‑ and low‑voltage distribution, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, busway, grounding, and lighting. - Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and BIM models, including conduit, cable, busway systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, and associated infrastructure. - Develop accurate labor, material, and equipment pricing models aligned with project budgets, delivery strategies, and market conditions. - Maintain historical cost data, benchmarking tools, and estimating assumptions to support future projects. - Review and analyze electrical contractor and subcontractor bids, identifying scope gaps, cost risks, and value improvement opportunities. - Support value engineering and design optioneering, assessing alternative materials, system layouts, and installation methods while maintaining redundancy and performance requirements. - Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to inform electrical system decisions based on cost, constructability, schedule, and procurement impacts. - Identify and assess risks related to long‑lead electrical equipment, labor availability, and market volatility. - Account for regional cost variations across U.S. markets, including labor rates, logistics, permitting requirements, and utility infrastructure impacts. - Support estimating for high‑capacity power infrastructure, including substations, utility tie‑ins, and campus‑wide electrical distribution. - Contribute to standardized data center designs and repeatable delivery models to improve cost predictability and speed to market. - Ensure electrical estimates align with applicable codes, safety standards, sustainability objectives, and energy efficiency requirements. - Prepare clear, well‑documented estimating deliverables for internal and external stakeholders. - Participate in cost reviews, procurement discussions, and commercial strategy sessions. - Support change management by evaluating electrical scope changes and associated cost impacts throughout the project lifecycle. - Provide estimating handover documentation to construction teams to support execution consistency. - SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. - 3–5+ years of experience in electrical estimating, with strong preference for data center, mission‑critical, or large‑scale infrastructure projects. - Solid technical knowledge of power distribution systems, backup generation, UPS systems, electrical codes, and labor productivity. - Experience estimating high‑density power or hyperscale facilities is highly desirable. - Proficiency in estimating and takeoff tools such as Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, Bluebeam, or similar platforms; comfort working with BIM‑based information. - Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. - Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Role Description The Electrical Resource Team Lead works in a matrix organization to support programs and projects by optimally planning, coordinating, and leading Electrical and Mechatronics Pre-Commissioning resources. This role provides technical and safety leadership, leads all aspects of hiring, training, performance management, and contract labor, and collaborates closely with project and installation leaders to ensure teams are accurately staffed, skilled, and supported. The position also drives continuous improvement and fosters a positive, safety-focused work environment. What You Will Do In This Role: - Provide the Electrical Resources at the right time to the right project, including Dematic employees, contract labor, tools, and equipment. - Operational management of Installation labor across various project sites. - Ensure the workforce is accurately skilled, applied, and motivated to succeed. - Flexible location with capability to travel to customer sites, willing to travel on short notice and spend up to 50% of the time traveling. The Opportunity Monterra is expanding our business to stand up an AI-native engineering services company. We’re assembling a team of rockstar electrical engineers and building proprietary AI engineering assistants that compress weeks of electrical engineering work into hours. We're starting with electrical engineering, specifically in EV charging, where we already support many contractors and EPCs on site design & development. Whether it’s running load calculations and NEC calculations or drafting panel schedules and permit-ready drawing packages, our goal is to leverage AI to deliver engineering services better, cheaper, faster to clients. We're hiring our Founding Professional Engineer. This isn't a traditional PE role. In addition to delivering engineering services to clients, you'll work closely with our product & software engineering team to encode your expertise into our AI design engine and develop tools that make your (and future colleagues') work 10x faster. In this role, your time will be split between: - Produce and deliver permit-ready drawing packages to clients - SLDs, panel schedules, load calculations, site plans - the same work you'd do at a traditional engineering firm. - Document the logic, rules, and judgement calls that go into every decision, working directly with our product & engineering team as the subject matter expert. You'll also be a core contributor to our product roadmap, helping inform the various tedious workflows that slow you down day-to-day. What You'll Do Drawing Production & PE Stamping - Produce permit-ready drawing packages for customers, starting with EV charging projects - site plans, SLDs, panel schedules, load calculations. - Stamp and deliver completed packages to customers, owning the engineering quality and AHJ compliance end-to-end. - Collaborate directly with customers to understand requirements and iterate on designs based on feedback. Engineering Intelligence & Product Subject Matter Expert - As you work, document every design decision, rule-of-thumb, and AHJ-specific requirements - to coach our AI engineering assistant. - Develop standardized templates, symbol libraries, and drawing conventions that become the foundation of our automated output. - Work directly with our product & engineering team to communicate and clarify these rules, requirements, and knowledge. AI Review & Quality Control - Provide feedback and perform QC on the AI engineering assistant - by validating output, testing tools as part of your drawing production workflow, and more. - Maintain a structured correction log - every issue you find gets documented with root cause, code reference, and AHJ context so it feeds back into the system. - Develop playbooks for the AI engineering assistant for different types of projects - e.g., review checklists and quality standards for different project types and jurisdictions. - Scale your throughput - the goal is to increase the number of stamped drawings we can deliver drastically as AI output quality improves and tedious work is effectively handled by the AI assistant. Who You Are You're an engineer who's always been a little frustrated by how slowly the industry adopts better tools. You've stamped plenty of drawing sets, you know what plan checkers look for, and you can size a service entrance in your sleep. But you're also the person who built spreadsheets to automate your own calculations, who thinks about how engineering knowledge could be systematized, and who gets excited about the idea of an AI that amplifies engineers’ productivity. Required - PE license in high-volume EV deployment states (e.g., CA, MA, TX, NY, etc.); willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed. - 7+ years of electrical design experience, with demonstrated experience producing permit-ready drawing packages (site plans, SLDs, panel schedules, load calculations). - Deep working knowledge of NEC and experience navigating AHJ-specific requirements. - Experience with EV charging infrastructure design (DCFC and/or L2 installations, utility interconnection, load management, light civil & structural design). - Strong verbal and written communication skills: ability to articulate engineering rules to teammates who are not experts in your area of expertise. - Proficient with CAD and BIM tools. - Qualities we value: Intensely curious, Strong team player, Pursuit of excellence, Strong sense of ownership and accountability, Self-starter, Creative problem solver. • The research, development, and implementation of either satellite-based navigation, ground-based NavAids or visual/lighting systems. • Conducts complex independent and inter-dependent engineering studies (i.e., feasibility, life-cycle costing, efficiency, risk analysis, cost benefit, and other engineering economic studies.) and brief upper management/stake holders on a regular basis. • Prepare transition plans, testing plans, and training plans, and coordinate the implementation of transition plan elements with all affected stakeholders. • Provide engineering system design packages for installation including communications equipment, radar automation equipment, control and monitoring equipment, and weather communication equipment. • Provides guidance and instructions in the design, development, and delivery of navigation systems. • Analyze customer needs to determine the costs, capacity and requirements for creating an electrical system plan. • Inspect electronic systems, instruments and equipment to ensure they meet applicable regulations and safety standards. • Prepare engineering risk assessments and provide recommendations and proposals of actions or improvements to mitigate potential risks resulting from site, facility, and project/program changes. • Recommends design modifications and equipment repair.
