We are actively seeking candidates to fill a current, open position. The Underwriting Supervisor, Non-Complex Markets, is an intermediate level role responsible for the direct day-to-day people leadership management and workflow management of the team supporting the Non-Complex case market (e.g., MGA, TPA, small group). This role ensures the consistent application of underwriting philosophy and efficient execution of the non-complex quoting process and other specific processes. The incumbent serves as the SME to solve business unit internal challenges and removes blockers from the team to maintain service excellence. The incumbent reports to the Manager, Group Underwriting - Non Complex. The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $60,000 - $93,000. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only; fixed-term contract and casual roles are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive only the base salary component. The actual base salary offered within this range will be determined by the successful candidate's skills and experience, as well as internal equity. Responsibilities A. Direct People Leadership Management (Key Focus) - Directly supervise, coach, and mentor the Non-Complex Underwriting team (UW A, UW I, UW II - MGA), including performance management, goal setting, and one-on-one development. - Coach team members; identify employee training and development needs; participate in hiring and employment processes; and manage employee performance. - Act as the second level for problem escalation, providing operational and functional guidance to recommend solutions or corrective measures. B. Workflow Management & Operational SME (Key Focus) - Manage daily workflow and resource allocation to ensure service standards and turnaround times are met for all non-complex underwriting activities (quotes, renewals, and amendments). - Responsible for specific processes such as the non-complex quoting workflow, ensuring quality and efficiency targets are met and exceeded. - Serve as the SME to solve business unit internal challenges and remove blockers, providing technical expertise to employees regarding processes. - Review and analyze performance metrics (caseload, block trends, quality) C. Operational Support - Develop and maintain an understanding of the business, including distribution channels, general business lines, and associated impacts and priorities. - Ensure the team maintains standard operating procedures and service standards. Education / Knowledge / Skills - 3+ years Group Insurance work experience, ideally with exposure to financial underwriting concepts. - Supervisory experience is an asset. - Strong knowledge of case underwriting (ASO, manual ratings, non-standard plan designs) is highly preferred. - Working towards Group benefits designations (GBA, CEBS) is an asset. - Working towards FLMI is an asset. - Well-developed team building, coaching, and/or mentoring skills. - Well-developed conflict resolution and negotiation skills. - Ability to think logically, analyze, and solve problems. - Knowledge of current administrative practices and systems. - Completion of a community college diploma with courses in office communications, accounting, database, management science, and leadership. - Well-developed organizational and mathematical skills. - Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset. Description The role is responsible for acting as a single point of contact for Loss Mitigation activities. This role works directly with borrowers experiencing financial hardships to identify homeownership retention options for eligible FNMA, FHLMC, USDA, FHA, and VA loans. Activities include, but not limited to, missing document follow-up, communicating approval and/or denial decisions associated with the Loss Mitigation evaluation, monitoring trial payment plans, and educating borrowers on Loss Mitigation programs in accordance with established investor/insurer, state, and federal guidelines/regulations. The SPOC will serve as a subject-matter-expert for assigned loan product(s) to ensure compliance with investor/insurer and/or regulatory guidelines by communicating with borrowers to explain loss mitigation options and how to apply for assistance, while properly documenting communications within the servicing system. Effectively communicate Loss Mitigation workout evaluation outcomes (approval or denial), including modifications, payment deferrals/partial claims, forbearance, short-sale and DIL workouts in accordance with investor/insurer guidelines, while maintaining a professional demeaner. Coordinate the receipt of all necessary documents and notify the borrower of any required documents necessary to complete the Loss Mitigation application. Effectively and independently manage an assigned work queue to ensure complete, accurate, and timely communications with the borrower. Assist with borrower mediations, meetings, and calls; provide loss mitigation options, communicate options, and follow up with borrows to obtain outstanding lien or judgment information. Assist with internal and external audit preparations, post-audit findings to investors, and any other exam activities, as assigned. Work with potential successors to educate them on documentation requirements to establish successor-in-interest status, including follow-up to communication to encourage the timely return of required documents. Review written communication prior to sending to borrowers’ for completeness and accuracy.
