Role Description Nabis is seeking an Associate Counsel to join our growing legal team and support the company's commercial, regulatory, and operational legal needs. Reporting to General Counsel, you'll serve as a trusted legal partner across the business — drafting and negotiating contracts, navigating cannabis compliance, and advising internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters. This is a high-ownership role for a sharp, collaborative attorney who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and is energized by the complexity and opportunity of the cannabis industry. - Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, distribution agreements, brand partnerships, NDAs, and licensing agreements. - Advise business teams on regulatory compliance across California, Nevada, and New York cannabis markets, including license requirements, product labeling, and advertising rules. - Support corporate governance matters, including entity management, board resolutions, and investor documentation. - Partner with operations, finance, sales, and product teams to provide practical, timely legal guidance that enables the business to move fast and stay compliant. - Monitor evolving cannabis laws and regulations at the state and local level; develop internal guidance and training materials to keep teams informed. - Assist with employment-related legal matters, risk management, and insurance coverage in partnership with HR and Finance. - Manage outside counsel relationships and coordinate legal matters with external attorneys when needed. - Help build and improve legal processes, templates, and tools to scale the legal function as the company grows. Qualifications - J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission (California preferred). - 2–5 years of legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house, ideally with exposure to commercial contracts and regulatory matters. - Experience in cannabis, alcohol & beverage, agriculture, logistics, or another regulated industry is a strong plus. - Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple matters simultaneously with strong attention to detail. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyers. - High ownership mindset with a collaborative, business-enabling approach to legal work. - Comfort working in ambiguity and building structure in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment. Benefits - Unlimited PTO and paid holidays. - Competitive salary: $115,000 - $125,000. - Additional compensation: bonus available, but dependent on job level. - Medical/Dental/Vision offered to all full-time employees. - 401(k) plan with a match.
