Senior Manager, Sales and Use Tax Compliance

• Overall responsibility is to manage all aspects of the sales & use tax compliance for assigned business units • Collaborate with the business to provide timely and expert advice on the S&U tax treatment of sales and purchases, providing clear communication and guidance that explains tax issues to non-tax professionals • Review monthly data files for accuracy, submit data to 3rd party return preparer and review funding requests for payments • Perform use tax reviews each month to identify over/under accruals. If errors are found, underlying issues should be identified and corrected by educating individuals or updating system configuration or processes • Review and resolve issues with account reconciliation items, credit carry forwards and calendar exceptions each month • Proactively identify areas of opportunities or exposure and implement process improvements as necessary • Manage or assist with special projects while concurrently handling day-to-day compliance activities • Work effectively with Tax Technology team when system process issues are discovered and help resolve through proper configuration, testing and rollout • Ensure exemption certificates are applied correctly by investigating issues in the exemption certificate management application • Perform tax research using applications such as CCH AnswerConnect
Job Requirements
- Typically requires a University Degree in Accounting, Finance or Tax or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience in sales and use tax compliance preferably for a large multi-jurisdictional organization with manufacturing operations, or an advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience
- Must have strong knowledge of current tax regulations and possess a comprehensive understanding of the sales & use tax compliance tax function
- Must have a strong understanding of how tax determination process works between the related applications such as the ERP system, tax automation software and exemption certificate management systems
- Must be able to effectively comprehend transactional sales and purchasing issues and perform necessary tax research into taxability of such transactions
- Experience with ERP systems. SAP a plus
- Experience with tax automation software. OneSource or Vertex a plus

Title and Summary Manager, Tax Job Description Summary This position will provide support to the Mastercard Tax team with respect to the overall effective tax planning, corporate tax compliance and risk management in the EE Division . The successful candidate will report to the VP Tax EEMEA based in Gurugram, India, and will work in close cooperation with the Tax Director based in Dubai. The position will ensure that tax opportunities are optimized and tax risks well managed in the EE Division with different tax systems, levels of sophistication of the tax authorities and business environment. Key responsibilities are: • Stewardship & compliance: overall responsibility for tax provision and statutory compliance which includes the following key areas: ensuring a robust process is in place for the timely completion of tax provisions and ensuring the provisions are adequate; working with the Finance function and external consultants for the timely completion and filing of tax returns and other compliance requirements where opportunities are optimized and tax risks areas are adequately addressed e.g. recommendation of a tax reserve to cover the amount at risk for a position taken in the tax return under both local and US GAAP; Responsible for tax accounting under US GAAP including tax provision and tax reserves (ASC 740 and ASC 740-10) for both interim and annual periods; Management of tax audits and development of strategies in closing the audits that is in the best interests of the Company. • Business support: Be a business partner with business units and other functions to deliver solutions that are tax efficient and at the same time meet their business objectives. This includes the review and provision of tax input on potential/new business cases, contracts, policies and guidelines. Examples - where the standard tax terms and clauses are not acceptable by the other contracting party, help the business team to craft terms that will be a win-win for both parties; and proposing changes to contracts/structures of deals that will result in tax savings or minimize tax compliance requirements; Participate in due diligence work for M&A initiatives; Where regulations are being introduced that have a tax impact, to represent the tax function and work with the business units and other functions to develop and ensure that tax considerations are adequately taken into account in formulating a business plan that will meet the requirements of the regulations. • Tax Planning: Work with the VP, Tax and Tax Director to develop and implement tax planning projects for the Region and be a major contributor in regional/global projects. • Providing support to the VP, Tax in keeping the management and business partners abreast of tax developments that may have potential impact on their business objectives including conducting tax training as appropriate; • Providing support to manage relationship with internal business partners and external parties such as outside counsel and government agencies for the Region.
