Job Description
Engineering Manager (Remote, India)
Netchex
About Netchex Netchex is a leading HR, payroll, and workforce management platform trusted by thousands of businesses across the U.S. Our mission is simple: make HR and payroll easier through intuitive, intelligent software. We’re a remote‑first team of builders, problem‑solvers, and people‑focused innovators — and we’re just getting started. Summary of the Role We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a core product engineering team responsible for building, scaling, and operating the backend services that power our HCM platform. You will lead 5–10 software engineers, balancing hands‑on technical leadership with people management, delivery execution, and cross‑functional collaboration. You’ll drive architecture decisions, ensure platform reliability and security, and build the kind of team that ships with consistency and takes pride in what they build. Key Responsibilities Platform & Engineering Leadership Own the architecture, design, and evolution of core backend systems and services across the Netchex platform. Lead development of scalable, maintainable services supporting customer‑facing applications and internal operational capabilities. Ensure systems meet high standards for reliability, security, performance, and compliance. Drive technical decisions around API design, data models, event‑driven systems, and service‑to‑service communication. Hands‑On Technical Leadership Remain actively involved in development using C#, .NET, SQL, and Azure (Functions, Service Bus, Event Hub, Azure SQL, Storage). Provide architectural guidance, code reviews, and hands‑on problem solving for complex technical challenges. Establish best practices around code quality, testing, observability, security, and performance. Guide integration patterns with internal systems and third‑party services. Team Leadership & Delivery Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5–10 engineers. Provide coaching and feedback to support technical growth and career development. Drive predictable delivery through strong agile practices, sprint planning, and prioritization. Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Partner closely with Product, Platform, and other teams. Translate business requirements and product goals into clear technical plans and execution roadmaps. Support production operations, incident management, root‑cause analysis, and system improvements. Ensure engineering solutions align with broader platform and business objectives. What We’re Looking For - 3–7+ years leading engineering teams, or a senior engineer ready to step into management. - Strong hands‑on experience in C# / .NET and advanced SQL. - Experience designing and scaling distributed systems and service‑oriented architectures. - Strong experience with Azure cloud services and cloud‑native design patterns. - Familiarity with event‑driven architectures, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices. - Proven ability to stay technically hands‑on while managing people, priorities, and delivery. - Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. - SaaS, HCM, or compliance‑driven platform experience is a plus. About You - You’re a builder who became a leader — and you haven’t stopped building. - You hold a high bar for code quality and system design, and you make that standard contagious on your team. - You communicate technical complexity clearly — to engineers, product managers, and executives alike. - You take ownership of outcomes, not just activities — you care whether the thing ships and whether it works. - You invest in your people genuinely, not just when performance review season comes around. - You thrive in environments where the problems are hard, the stakes are real, and the team has your back. Here’s how we show up - Win Together — One team. One mission. No silos. - Deliver Results — No excuses. Just results. - Raise the Bar — Better today. Stronger tomorrow. - Decide and Drive — We don’t wait for perfect. We move. - Bring the Energy — Positivity fuels performance. Netchex is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
