Perishable Manager Meat - St Louis, MO

Purpose This position provides leadership, expertise, training, and guidance to Regional Field staff, Store Managers, Meat Cutters and store associates on all phases of perishable operations with a special emphasis on meat operations, including product knowledge, ordering product, cold chain, management, quality assurance, food safety, sanitation, shrink control, product merchandising, COOL program compliance and managing a profitable department. Responsible for analyzing department performance; developing and executing effective plans meant to improve department sales and profitability. Responsibilities - Provide leadership and training to store management and staff, inclusive of hands-on demonstration, on all facets of store perishable operations. Focus on Meat Cutting and Meat Merchandising training to maximize sales and profitability. - Ensure that Meat Cutter training is conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures at individual store locations and across the Region. - Lead the implementation and use of Best Methods and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures as established by the company for perishable and meat cutting programs in stores. This includes but is not limited to: Food Safety, Sanitation, COOL, Meat Cutter/Produce Resource Manuals, Meat POG’s, Meat Order Guide execution, Inventory processes, Daily Manager Signoffs and Meat Cutting List. - Improve efficiencies through higher levels of performance by coaching, teaching and monitoring the necessary activities to effectively achieve desired operating results - Partner with Region Leadership to develop action plans improving department results through improved levels of performance and merchandising standards at store level that will reinforce the Save-A-Lot image & brand leading to increased gross profit, increased distribution percentages and minimized losses. - Coordinate and meet regularly with Region Leadership to ensure that action plans, performance metrics and merchandising standards are achieving Region and Company expectations. Develop and Analyze reports that support profit and loss results and ensure perishable product delivers targeted sales and profit in each store utilizing interactive reporting tools. - Perform competitive price checks in their market area and communicate appropriately. - Ensure daily store conditions meet company and customer expectations. This responsibility includes but is not limited to: Product presentation, SCA, Food Safety and Sanitation. - Protect company property, funds and merchandise at all times. - Ensure compliance with all City, State and Federal requirements - Assist District Managers in setting the perishable department in new and existing stores - Participate in recruiting, hiring and training of meat cutters and perishable employees in stores. - Deliver on special project requests as assigned and complete routine paperwork accurately and on a timely basis. About You - Must be 18 years of age - Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent, extensive retail experience including hands on experience in cutting Fresh Meat, Merchandising Fresh Meat and Meat Dept. operations. - Experience managing staff is preferred - Positive attitude - Ability to plan, present and effectively implement projects and initiatives - Ability to work within a team environment - Excellent Leadership skills including leading your peers - Proficient in Microsoft products, such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Power Point - Effective communication skills and the ability to train individuals or groups on all aspects of perishable operations - Knowledge and practice of food safety and sanitation regulations and requirements - Knowledge of retail operation metrics and shrink controls - Knowledge of the customer, their needs and wants, and unique aspects of the market - Strong people leadership capabilities, including the ability to build strong working relationships - Demonstrated sense of urgency with the ability to drive and sustain positive change in the organization Physical Requirements - Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing 20-50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight could be 50-80 pounds - Must have the ability to stand, walk and / or move about for extended periods of time - Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp, twist and use sawing motions for extended periods of time - Regularly works in freezers, coolers, refrigerators, inside and outside of the store in all weather conditions and inside delivery trucks #LI-LW2 Our Values Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our workplace values.
