The Role + Purpose: The Technical Designer partners closely with Design, Production, and Merchandising teams to bring product concepts to life through precise fit, construction, and technical execution. This role ensures garments meet brand standards from initial development through bulk production, contributing to both product quality and overall business success. We welcome candidates with diverse paths and experiences who bring strong technical expertise and collaborative problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities: - Lead the technical development process for Women's Swim and Lounge Knits from initial concept through bulk production (TOP). - Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, and Production teams to achieve intended fit, construction, and aesthetic goals. - Evaluate garments on live models, identify fit issues, and provide actionable solutions to improve product performance. - Create and maintain detailed technical packages, ensuring accuracy in specs, construction details, and updates across multiple categories. - Manage sample tracking, fittings, and approvals, ensuring all key milestones and deadlines (including bulk and photo approvals) are met. - Communicate clearly with factory partners, providing detailed written feedback, technical sketches, and visual references to support execution. - Maintain organized technical records, sample history, and documentation to support consistency and continuous improvement. Qualifications: Required: - 5+ years of experience in technical design, preferably in swimwear, intimates, or knit categories. - Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Excel. - Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and technical sketching. - Understanding of fabric properties and how they impact fit and performance. - Experience managing fittings independently and driving the fit approval process. - Strong organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Preferred: - Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience). - Experience working with PLM systems (e.g., Karat or similar). - Familiarity with factory processes and machinery across domestic and international production. - Knowledge of J.Crew brand standards and product expectations.
