Position Summary Join Slate as a Sr. Generative Design Lead, where you’ll be at the forefront of creating innovative, real-world solutions in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction. Lead and collaborate with a global team of designers, developers, engineers, and industry experts to develop cloud-based computational solutions using Grasshopper and Rhino Compute. As a vital member of our Generate platform, computational design team, you will: - Collaborate with teammates to build modular, scalable solutions - Utilize your creativity and expertise in visual scripting to deliver high-quality outputs - Drive innovation through parametric, algorithmic, and data-driven design processes, enabling high-performance outcomes - Adhere to pre-existing guidelines while seizing opportunities to enhance and grow our platform If you have a vision and passion for deploying generative and computational design solutions to complex projects in the AEC industry, we’d love to hear from you! Role / You are: - A leader, visionary, technically proficient and passionate about architecture and construction technology - Collaborates closely with engineers, BIM specialists, Computational Designers and contractors to integrate computational methods into project delivery - Knowledgeable in connecting front-end and back-end solutions using Grasshopper and Rhino Compute - Able to clearly communicate and articulate complex scripting solutions and needs to client and internal stakeholders Responsibilities: - Lead the strategy, development, and deployment of generative and computational design workflows across AEC projects - Work within the existing framework of Slate’s Generate platform for computational design, while exploring potential enhancements - Oversee and deliver high-quality Grasshopper solutions that are organized and tailored to client-specific outputs - Develop custom API solutions for interoperability between multiple software platforms (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and more) - Establish standards and best practices for computational design within the organization - Lead and mentor a team of computational designers and design technologists - Create custom nodes in Python and C#, transforming them into custom plugins, hops, etc. - Evaluate and implement emerging tools and technologies to maintain competitive advantage Desired Experience A minimum of 10+ years of experience in computational design, design technology, or advanced digital design within the AEC industry using Rhino and Grasshopper to develop custom software solutions Desired Profile of the Candidate - Proven leadership experience delivering complex multidisciplinary projects - Self-Motivated Learner: A fast-paced, self-learning individual who thrives in dynamic environments - Team building: Ability to develop and mentor a pre-existing team by building trust and accountability - Collaborative: A highly collaborative team player who excels in knowledge sharing - Organized and Responsive: Highly organized with a strong sense of responsiveness - Detail-Oriented: Attention to detail and commitment to quality - Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: ability to translate complex technical ideas into actionable insights Qualitative Skills - Must Haves: - Proficient in Computational Design using Grasshopper - Expertise in Generative Design and Parametric Modeling - Ability to create Complex Geometry - Skills in Rendering and Visualizations. - Strong understanding of Data Structures and Manipulations - Python expertise - C# expertise, particularly with Rhino Compute - Familiarity with the Grasshopper SDK - Experience with Visual Studio Code or similar development environments - **A portfolio showcasing contributions to the physical world through computational design** Qualitative Skills - Nice-To-Haves: - Experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning - Expertise in Rhino, Inside, Revit, Dynamo, Figma, Revit, AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion, and/or other AEC industry tools - Knowledge of three.js and/or ReactJS - Experience in Digital Fabrication/Manufacturing - Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly - Passion for developing robust software and writing maintainable code - Proven ability to work in a fast paced, highly responsive agile team with rapidly evolving requirements and architectures - Experience and knowledge with BIM (E.g., Revit and IFC) - Excellent verbal and written communication skills Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related fields Perks and Benefits At Slate, we invest in our employees and provide a full range of benefits and perks to help you grow and thrive. Role Description The Intern will support CADE program implementation, data analysis, and communications to strengthen member engagement, improve data-driven insights, and enhance public-facing storytelling to advance climate action and regenerative practice in the built environment. Responsibilities - Data & Visualization - Clean, organize, and analyze datasets (AIA 2030 Commitment, Materials Pledge, COTE® Top Ten) - Develop dashboards and visualizations (Power BI or similar) - Support GIS mapping and data organization - Member Engagement - Conduct outreach to member firms for climate action and design excellence program reporting and participation - Support volunteer program coordination and CRM tracking - Assist with resilience and disaster response initiatives such as development of the new Resilience and Disaster Response Information Hub - Communications & Research - Prepare data summaries and maintain resource libraries - Conduct research on sustainability, resilience, and building performance - Draft short-form content (blogs, newsletters, web updates) - General Support - Assist with meetings, research, and program coordination Qualifications - Current undergraduate or graduate student in architecture, environmental studies, sustainability, planning, public policy, data science, or a related field. - Basic data analysis skills; familiarity with Excel and interest in tools like PowerBI or GIS. - Strong research, writing, and communication abilities. - Detail-oriented with good organizational and time management skills. - Ability to work collaboratively and engage professionally in a team setting. - Interest in climate action, resilience, or the built environment, with enthusiasm for nonprofit work.
