Protection & Control Specialist – Field Technologist or Engineer
Shermco Industries
• Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of: Protective relays, RTUs, PLCs, DFRs, and communication systems • Perform field testing for: Transmission and distribution systems, transformers, buses, and generation assets • Assist with configuration and commissioning of relay systems, including: SEL (e.g., 311, 387, 487, 787) GE Multilin relays (e.g., C30, D60, T60, L90) • Support SCADA and RTU integration and upgrades • Interpret drawings, protection schemes, and relay settings • Troubleshoot and resolve field issues with guidance from senior specialists • Contribute to project documentation and commissioning reports • Maintain strong communication with clients and internal teams • Promote and follow Shermco’s safety-first culture
Job Requirements
- 3 - 7 years of progressive experience in protection & controls field services
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience with protection relays (SEL preferred; GE considered an asset)
- Familiarity with RTU and communication systems (SEL, GE, Novatech, etc.)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across BC
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Nice to have: NETA Certification (or working toward certification)
- Previous experience supporting commissioning projects
