The Environmental Claims team is dedicated to helping our customers mitigate environmental losses involving toxic torts, class actions and construction claims. You will manage a claims caseload from assignment through resolution, with moderate direction from your team manager and Claims executives. At this level, you will provide technical services on claims of low to moderate exposure and complexity under environmental policies within specific limits of authority by following established protocols to ensure that claims are handled efficiently, while delivering a customer-centric claims service. Additional responsibilities include: - Analyze coverage and draft and issue clear, timely coverage determinations. - Investigate liability and damages exposure for claims - Maintain accurate file documentation, reserves, and reporting in compliance with internal and regulatory standards. - Communicate effectively with insureds, brokers, and including notifying underwriters of claim issues and trends - Draft case summary reports in connection with significant reserve increases - Participate in mediations and negotiation of settlements - Manage defense counsel and litigation strategies within established guidelines and budgetary restraints. Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area OR - Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in Claims or Insurance area OR - Completion of Zurich Claims Training Program and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area OR - High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area AND - Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s) - Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets and products - Microsoft Office experience Preferred Qualifications: - Juris Doctor highly preferred - Effective verbal and written communication skills - Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills - Experience collaborating in a team environment and building cross functional working relationships - Proactively shares and promotes sharing of insights - Ability to follow reserving process for indemnity and expense in analyzing the potential exposure of moderately complex claims - Ability to determine the scope and exposure for moderately complex claims - Ability to leverage trend and relationships to provide high-quality customer service - Well-versed in identifying, understanding and explaining moderately complex financial and/or actuarial trends/concepts. - Ability to effectively communicate coverage determinations to customers/ clients/brokers - Ability to direct counsel on an ongoing basis to guide the course of litigation and settlement strategies - Understanding of environmental concepts and trends Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. The Mechanical Claims Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating and negotiating minor to complex vehicle repair claims and accurately determining coverage and liability (based on the reported fact scenario).
