Global Capital Projects Director, US Mining

This Opportunity WSP is seeking an accomplished Global Capital Projects Director to support and expand our Global Mining and Metals (M&M) business. This position could work out of WSP's offices in Salt Lake City, UT; Reno, NV; Houston, TX; or Lakewood, CO. Other WSP office locations or remote options may be considered for an exceptional candidate. This role focuses on strategic leadership of our capital projects practice across the mining sector, including major project opportunity capture and ongoing assessment, ensuring visibility across regions and proactively identifying, capturing relevant criteria and qualifying leads. The qualification of opportunities includes significant client facing effort to assess and position the business. The successful candidate will direct and grow our capital projects portfolio from pursuit through execution. Your Impact - Developing and maintaining the global mining and metals (M&M) major projects pipeline - Mapping internal capabilities, SME’s, and leads and matching these to support major project pursuit development and project delivery - Forming up pursuit teams and leadership on early-stage pursuit development (i.e. capture planning, win strategies, assessing potential alliances and partnerships) - Drive business growth by identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and supporting strategic pursuits. - Guide clients and internal teams through project development cycles, including execution planning, risk management, contracting strategy, and implementation. - Promote WSP’s reputation through industry engagement, conference participation, and thought leadership. - Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. - Domestic and international travel for client and internal meetings is anticipated (i.e., one week per month) - Coordinate with US Capital Projects Director on clients, pursuits and strategy Contributing to the Major Projects Strategy In addition, the role will also support the implementation of the Major Projects in Mining strategy: - Support in the assessment of people and skills needed to deliver major projects - Support mining within regions in the identification of key hires as pursuit planning matures - Contribute to hiring plan efforts across regions - Provide input to identify investments required in software, tools and upskilling - Contribute to developing the WSP way in Major Projects in Mining including guidelines and the WSP “Red Book” - Contribute to governance of major project opportunities Who You Are - Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field. - 20+ years of experience in mining, major capital project development, and engineering services. - Demonstrated experience as a Project Director or senior leader responsible for executing large mining capital programs. - Strong background in EPCM, IPD, and alternative delivery models for large capital projects. - Deep knowledge of mining operations, processing facilities, and supporting infrastructure. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to varied audiences. - Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead multidisciplinary teams, and manage competing priorities. - Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization. - Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits. - Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs. - Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. - Ability to travel within and outside the US as required by project and business development needs.
