The Underwriting Assistant plays a key role in this mission by supporting operational excellence throughout the underwriting process. Position Overview The Insurance Underwriting Assistant plays a key role in the Property & Casualty (P&C) underwriting team throughout the entire policy lifecycle from submission through issuance. This role provides essential administrative and operational support within an MGA and insurance underwriting environment, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in all underwriting activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of insurance documentation, policy processing and underwriting workflows, and will maintain effective communication with underwriters, agency, and market partners. This position reports to the Underwriting Manager. Who Should Apply This position is ideal for individuals currently working in insurance, especially those with experience supporting underwriters, brokers, and agency operations. If you do not have prior experience in the P&C insurance industry, please do not apply. Key Responsibilities Underwriting Operations Support - Set up new and renewal business applications for quoting; coordinate timely quote turnaround and reviews for accuracy. - Verify and validate data accuracy on submitted applications and related documents (applicant, policy, and financial information). - Managing outstanding subjectivities to ensure completion prior to policy issuance and premium collection. - Maintain and update underwriting databases and systems; troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues as needed. Communication & Collaboration - Act as a liaison between underwriters, agents, and market partners to facilitate smooth workflow and issue resolution. - Communicate account status updates clearly and promptly to all stakeholders. - Provide responsive, professional service in both verbal and written correspondence to meet client expectations. Process Improvement & Miscellaneous - Assist in developing and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. - Support audits, training, or project initiatives as assigned. Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree preferred - Minimum of 1-3 years of recent experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance, ideally within an E&S or MGA environment is required. Candidates without prior insurance experience will not be considered. - Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams - Proven organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail - High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word; PowerPoint a plus) - Experience with insurance management platforms (MGA systems/IMS preferred) - Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dead-driven environment Location & Travel - This role offers flexible work arrangements – remote, hybrid, or onsite – depending on candidate location and business needs. - Occasional travel (up to 20%) may be required for meetings, training or audits.
