Role Description Symetra is seeking a Vice President, Data Analytics to help advance our transformation into a truly data-driven enterprise. In this senior leadership role, you will set strategy, lead high-impact analytics initiatives, and guide teams that deliver insights powering business decisions across the organization. In this role, you will be accountable for shaping and driving Symetra’s data and analytics strategy and delivering solutions that drive meaningful business outcomes. This role leads cross-functional teams spanning data engineering, BI and reporting, and data science, and partners closely with both business and technology leaders. You will build strong relationships across the enterprise, translate business needs into analytic solutions, and communicate strategy, roadmaps, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences. This role carries responsibility for both strategy and execution and is distinguished from Director-level roles by ownership of a major analytics function or enterprise-scale solution. What You will Do - Strategy, Partnership, and Data Fluency - Partner with teams across sales, marketing, customer experience, underwriting, claims, actuarial, and innovation - Find opportunities where analytics can improve efficiency, grow revenue, and enhance customer experience - Develop and implement analytics roadmaps with clear success metrics - Advanced Analytics and Insight Generation - Lead and enable descriptive, predictive, and machine learning analytics initiatives - Apply sound judgment to balance advanced modeling with practical, scalable solutions - Coach teams and promote analytic best practices tied to real business outcomes - Data Management, Governance, and Reporting - Promote a trusted, well-governed enterprise data environment - Enable self-service analytics and thoughtful integration of third-party data - Champion responsible data use and privacy standards - Team Leadership and Development - Lead and develop high-performing analytics teams, including direct and matrixed staff - Set clear expectations, foster collaboration, and support skill and career growth Qualifications - 12+ years of proven experience in data analytics, data science, or a related field - 5+ years of experience leading, mentoring and developing technical teams - Hands-on technical expertise with Python, DBT, and Snowflake - Demonstrated curiosity and familiarity with AI and its implications at the enterprise level of an organization - Proficiency with modern data mining, analytics, and visualization tools - Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex concepts clearly - Strategic problem solver with a track record of motivating change and building consensus - Skilled relationship-builder who can influence at all levels of the organization - Continuous learner who stays current on industry trends and emerging technologies - High School Diploma required, bachelor’s degree or higher preferred - Ability to travel occasionally as needed Benefits - Flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangements - Plan for your future with our 401(k) plan and take advantage of immediate vesting and company matching up to 6% - Paid time away including vacation and sick time, flex days and ten paid holidays - Give back to your community and double your impact through our company matching Compensation - Salary Range: $265,000 - $315,000 plus eligibility for annual bonus program and long-term incentive plan
