The Senior Staff, Medical & Scientific Affairs Liaison – Infectious Disease and Microbiology is primarily responsible for developing and executing medical and scientific education strategies within the Infectious Disease and Microbiology disease areas. The Staff MSL also contributes to key Medical and Scientific Affairs initiatives, including fostering and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), participation in scientific advisory boards, support of scientific and clinical studies, and provision of field-based medical insights to internal teams. This is a vital role that serves as a scientific liaison between Beckman Coulter Diagnostics and the academic and clinical community, strengthening and supporting the advancement and clinical utilization of Infectious Disease and Microbiology diagnostics. Primary responsibilities include contributing to medical and scientific education and engagement strategies, developing and cultivating strong relationships with KOLs and healthcare professionals, identifying unmet medical needs and scientific gaps, providing insights into clinical practice paradigms, and developing and delivering high-quality medical and scientific education for Infectious Disease and Microbiology products. This position reports to the Senior Director, Medical & Scientific Affairs – Infectious Diseases and Microbiology and is part of the Medical & Scientific Affairs organization, a team of medical specialists dedicated to all medical aspects of safe and effective in vitro diagnostics across therapeutic areas. This role may be remote and based in Sweden. Beckman Coulter Diagnostics has a major site presence in South Florida, Southern California, Hebron (Kentucky), and Minneapolis (Minnesota), as well as major hubs in Europe and Asia. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: - Support the development and implementation of strategic engagement plans to build and maintain relationships with KOLs, Infectious Disease providers, healthcare professionals, medical societies, and other key stakeholders within the Infectious Disease and Microbiology field - Support the development and implementation of strategic education and training plans for internal and external stakeholders - Assist with the execution and ongoing support of clinical research studies and scientific initiatives - Act as a scientific authority and engage in high-quality scientific exchange in Infectious Disease and Microbiology, translating complex scientific information into effective medical and scientific education and training for internal and external partners - Stay current on Infectious Disease and Microbiology clinical practice trends and diagnostic innovations; develop materials for presentations; and participate in scientific symposia, congresses, and educational programs The essential requirements of the job include: - Bachelor’s degree with 14+ years of experience, or Master’s or Doctoral degree with 12+ years of experience, in Infectious Disease and/or Microbiology - 5 or more years of experience in a Medical Affairs, Medical Science Liaison, or relevant clinical practice role - Extensive knowledge of clinical and laboratory practices related to the testing, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases - Strong understanding of clinical research methodologies, regulatory and laboratory standards, and medical terminology - Proven ability to establish and maintain trusted relationships with KOLs, healthcare providers, laboratorians, and other healthcare professionals - Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to both scientific and non-scientific audiences Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical / Environment Requirements: - Ability to travel minimum 20–25% of the time (domestic and international) - Swedish work permit - Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; proficiency in Swedish or other Nordic languages is considered an advantage. Overview The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based representative of the Medical Affairs Organization that supports and represents Shionogi Inc and its products with, and to, key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinicians, institutions, and professional organizations. This includes relationship building and management of KOLs providing for meaningful scientific exchange at national, regional and local levels in both academic and clinical practice settings. The incumbent addresses the specific needs of healthcare professionals (HCPs) by responding to unsolicited requests for information about our marketed and developing products. As a clinical and scientific expert on the company and products, the MSL is responsible for building long-term relationships and establishing rapport with HCPs in hospitals, clinics, and academic centers through scientific disease state and product discussions that support current therapeutic concepts and ensure the safe and effective use of products. The incumbent is also a resource to company management regarding therapeutic area dynamics, business development, and KOL feedback. Minimum Job Requirements Qualifications - Doctoral level degree in life sciences program with strong scientific knowledge highly preferred. Post grad in virology, infectious disease, epidemiology or related fields considered. - Previous MSL experience in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry required with previous respiratory infectious disease experience preferred; experience in COVID-19 preferred OR, previous MSL experience in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry preferred with previous respiratory infectious disease experience required. - Experience in the outpatient medical community as well both pre- and post-launch product approval activities is preferred. - Demonstrates clinical, scientific, and technical knowledge within infectious diseases or respiratory diseases preferred but not required. - Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and business strategies. - Knowledgeable with current regulatory guidelines to ensure corporate compliance in all activities, including those related to scientific interactions, unsolicited questions, clinical trials, and research. - Behaves in an ethical and professional manner, adhering to the company's guidelines and regulatory requirements.
