United We Dream
United We Dream (UWD) is the largest immigrant youth-led community in the country. We create welcoming spaces for young people – regardless of immigration status – to support, engage, and empower them to make their voice heard and win! With an online reach of over 2 million, more than 500,000 members as well as over 100 local groups, UWD is made up of fearless youth fighting to improve the lives of our members and their families. POSITION SUMMARY The Campaign Fellowship is for young people who are passionate about immigration and education justice and committed to advocating for change in their communities. The program will provide fellows with training and mentorship to grow their skills as organizers and leaders. The program will also provide fellows with the opportunity to build community with like-minded youth and become a part of the United We Dream Network. Fellows will be expected to fully engage with the training curriculum to build up their campaign and advocacy skills and to complete a set of assignments to put those skills into action. This is a remote part-time position. RESPONSIBILITIES - Attend two weekly workshops during each of the 10 weeks of the fellowship program to grow your critical thinking skills, develop key campaign and organizing skills, and deepen your understanding of social justice and transformation. - Create a campaign proposal, identifying a problem you want to address in your community, the decision-maker that can address the problem, allies to recruit, and a set of tactics to communicate their demands. - Build relationships with other student organizations and local interest groups, forging strategic partnerships to amplify campaign visibility and mobilize collective action. - Design and lead creative direct actions or advocacy tactics to push forth your campaign demands, influence key stakeholders, and hold decision-makers accountable. - Learn about the Method Guide and put your skills to action by hosting a community meeting to gain support for your campaign proposal, facilitate community outreach and dialogue, and build a broad base of support. - Conduct one-on-one check-ins with community members and strategic partners to build a base of supporters for your campaign. - Participate in recurring trainings, meetings/check-ins, and office hours to refine campaign skills, complete the assignments, and build connections. - Complete assignments aimed at broadening your understanding of culture, politics and power, and exercises to place your campaign skills into practice in the real world. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS - Deeply committed to United We Dream’s mission and an ability to balance your burning passion for justice with a good sense of humor - Experience with writing and briefing reports - Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and interpersonal skills) - Enjoys working with others and is a team player with the ability to integrate data and insights from, individuals and teams across various departments - Ability to analyze and draw insights from data to synthesize and present the most important insights to senior-level and non-data people in an easy-to-understand way - Impeccable attention to detail; able to spot mistakes and inconsistencies missed by others - Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google G-Suite applications, especially for analysis and presentation of data CULTURAL COMPETENCY (MUST HAVES) - Strong understanding of the immigrant experience - Understanding of race, gender, sexuality and other aspects of identity, and their intersections, and how that plays out in the work - Demonstrates self-awareness of their own multiple group identities and their attendant dynamics, and can adapt approach as needed - Ability to build strong relationships and trust across race, gender, class, and other group identities, both internally and externally SALARY AND BENEFITS Compensation: Commensurate with experience. United We Dream offers a competitive salary, and comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, health insurance, retirement plans, and life insurance. Base pay ranges $25.00 per hour with a max of 15 hours per week Location: As UWD is a remote-first workplace, this is a part-time position. We have a preference to hire in states where we already have employees working from home - AZ, DC, CT, CA, FL, IL, MO, NJ, NM, NY, OK, SC, and TX. Once UWD determines it is safe to do so, you may be required to travel occasionally to DC or elsewhere, for internal team meetings, retreats, and UWD events as required for your role.
