• Participate in the design, development, and operation of several key embedded software capabilities on the Lime vehicles and related products. This will include new exciting yet-to-be-released products too! • Be the voice of customers for engineering excellence within the team and influence team roadmap decisions. • Provide feedback in the peer review process and effectively communicate with technical leadership. Be the ambassador of industry best practices in this domain. • Own unique embedded software functions through design, implementation (in C, C++, RUST etc), testing, and integration in an embedded Linux or real-time operating system (RTOS) environment. • Learn and master multiple components including networking(LTE)/WiFi, motor control, Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, and various sensors. • Write software to interact with devices/electronics using I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, etc. • Work closely with hardware teams to support board design, bring-up, and verification, as well as integration and testing during various phases of product development including proof of concept.

• As part of the Platform Engineering Team, optimize Playground’s operating system and integrate state-of-the-art image processing, CV and ML algorithms. • Take control of low-level SoC functions including NPU, ISP, and GPU pipelines to achieve best-in-class throughput and response. • Unlock new system capabilities by enabling deep, end-to-end integration across applications, firmware, and hardware. • Engage in a creative process that improves people’s lives.

• Design and Build Complex, Multi-Radio PCBs • Contribute to high-density electrical design for next-generation GPS tracking devices with BLE, WiFi, cellular, and GNSS radios on a single board. • Validate schematics, review component selections, and chase down detailed specifications and vendor technical questions. • Perform DFMEA, PFMEA, stress analysis, and tolerance analysis to ensure design robustness. • Support board bring-up, debug, and iterative refinement from early prototypes through production-ready designs. • Prototype and Validate • Build mockups and proofs-of-concept to support R&D exploration, technical feasibility assessments, and industrial design convergence. • Drive parallel prototyping efforts to accelerate learning and de-risk design decisions. • Support EVT, DVT, and PVT phases with clear design intent and fast iteration. • Build Tools and Fixtures for the Team • Design and build programming jigs, test fixtures, dev boards, and interface helper boards used across the hardware and firmware teams. • Execute quick-turn board designs for tooling — practical, functional, and delivered fast. • Collaborate Across Disciplines • Work closely with firmware engineers on hardware-firmware interfaces, test points, and debug access. • Partner with mechanical engineering and industrial design on form factor constraints, integration tradeoffs, and physical prototyping. • Interface with operations and manufacturing partners on DFM, DFA, and production readiness. • Engage directly with component suppliers and contract manufacturers to resolve technical questions and drive sourcing decisions. • Communicate and Document • Proactively share findings, status, and technical insights with the team through clear written documentation. • Create thorough design documentation that others can build on and review. • Produce high-quality presentation materials when needed to communicate design decisions and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The candidate needs to be deeply hands-on and capable of working independently in a highly collaborative team of experienced firmware developers. The candidate will execute the software development lifecycle for firmware running on embedded processor cores located inside System-On-Chips (SoCs), as well as host-based device drivers, tools, and application-level software. The candidate will gain experience with high-speed SerDes technology, complex FW architectural designs, diagnostics, and other SW tools required for customer solutions. What You'll Do - Lead and mentor junior firmware developers on the team. - Drive process and workflow improvement initiatives within the firmware team. - Architect, design, and implement software and firmware for DSP products, systems, and SoCs, from the requirements stage to deployment. - Design, develop, code, test, and debug firmware and software. - Create documents for firmware and software architectures, designs, and algorithms. - Integrate and validate new software designs. - Participate in software design and code reviews. - Develop unit and functional tests for software and firmware developments. - Plan and schedule development and track development progress. What You'll Need: - BS or higher degrees preferred (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with software experience). - Strong C/C++ design and programming skills. - Experience with unit testing and scripting languages such as Python. - Prior experience in developing and debugging software, including pre-silicon and post-silicon testing. - Experience developing device drivers and low-level software for HW peripherals such as I2C, SPI, UART, DMA, etc. - Real-time OS techniques such as preemptive multi-tasking schedulers, multi-threaded execution, semaphores, mutexes, and interrupts. - Hardware debug and lab experience using JTAG debug tools, oscilloscopes, etc. - Embedded development for System-On-Chip (SoC) or x86 platforms. - Linux kernel device driver and user space development is preferred. - Previous technical leadership experience is preferred. - Familiarity with SerDes and optical high-speed interfaces is desirable. - Familiarity with ethernet, switching technologies, and Forward Error Correction is desirable. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
