Work is performed under the general supervision of the Elevator and Amusement Device Inspector Supervisor and reviewed through weekly reports, observation of inspections, and in periodic conferences. Positions inspect a variety of equipment to determine its safe working condition and operation and to detect hazards or mechanical failures which would endanger passengers and repairmen. Positions consult with management and offer technical assistance concerning safety equipment and devices and methods of operation. Schedules and conducts final field inspections and issues a certificate prior to equipment being used for conveyance of passengers and periodic re-inspections to determine that equipment is being safely maintained and conforms to standards of the safety codes; types of equipment inspected include: passenger and freight elevators, wind turbine elevators, escalators, aerial passenger tramways, amusement devices, special related equipment, and workmen's hoists. Inspects elevator hoist-ways, passenger cars, machinery, moving parts and cables, safety devices and equipment, auxiliary power sources, electrical wiring, and hydraulic systems, where applicable, to determine compliance to design requirements and safety codes. Witnesses loading tests of passenger cars based on weight capacity to determine that the equipment is within the designed parameters.
