Interstate Field Tax Auditor
State of North Carolina
• Conduct independent examinations of financial records of taxpayers that have unique or special audit features or anticipated accounting, tax law, or investigative problems. • Review and audit, in an accurate and thorough manner, tax schedules administered by the Department to ensure they follow the statutes and to make appropriate adjustments based on the accounting records available. • Facilitate and coordinate audit adjustments governed under G.S. 105-130.5A, Secretary’s authority to adjust net income. • Acquire relevant, quality documentation, and coordinate meetings between the Department and the contracted transfer pricing subject matter expert to analyze findings. • Maintain a good working relationship with DOR management, auditors, taxpayers and their representatives and tax administration as it relates to IRS code section 482. • Some overnight travel is required throughout the year.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, accounting or related field with at least eighteen semester hours of accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience as a Field Auditor or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience performing independent examination and analysis of sales and use tax and/or complex corporate returns, records, financial statements, and systems for accuracy, completeness and conformance to statutes and rules
- Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal tax issues, auditing and accounting theories and principles
- Experience performing, justifying, and defending complex, specialized audits and findings
- Demonstrated extensive technical expertise in working with large complex (Fortune 500) taxpayers
- Ability to understand complex corporate structures and IRS code section 482 that regulate transfer pricing between affiliated companies and knowledge of transfer pricing documentation and intercompany legal agreements.
