Location: Needham, Mass Experience Level: 1-3 years Function: Research & Development About the Role Shark is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer II to join our R&D team and help develop the next generation of innovative consumer products. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, enjoys building products from the ground up, and approaches new technical challenges with curiosity, optimism, and grit. Key Responsibilities - Lead and contribute to the design, prototyping, and development of new products from early concept through production - Create and iterate mechanical and electromechanical designs, integrating motors, sensors, actuators, PCBs, and controls - Build, test, and refine functional prototypes using in-house lab tools, rapid prototyping methods, and supplier support - Collaborate closely with EE, Industrial Design, Product Development, New Product Development, and testing teams to deliver robust product solutions - Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for mechanical and system-level issues - Translate product requirements into CAD models, drawings, tolerances, and specifications - Support design validation, reliability testing, and design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA) - Maintain a positive, solution-oriented mindset when tackling ambiguous or first-of-their-kind problems Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field - 1-3 years of industry experience in product development or R&D - Strong hands-on prototyping experience, including building and testing physical hardware - Solid understanding of electromechanical systems (motors, gearing, mechanisms, basic electronics integration) - Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar) - Experience developing products from concept to production - Comfortable working in a fast-moving, iterative environment with evolving requirements - Demonstrated ability to approach new problems with energy, creativity, and a positive attitude Preferred Qualifications - Experience in consumer products, appliances, or high-volume manufacturing - Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, machining, soft tooling) - Experience working with simulation tools, e.g., CFD, FEA.
