Manager, API Services

• Leads and manages the API services software development team • Oversees the design, development, and delivery of high-quality APIs • Ensures the maintenance, enhancement, and performance of existing APIs • Collaborates with Application Administrators and PMO on API integration, help desk resolution, and delivery • Establishes and enforces API development standards and best practices • Manages team performance, including hiring, mentoring, and performance reviews • Participates in road mapping, budgeting, and other forecasting tools • Stays current with API technologies and industry trends (highlights the need for ongoing learning) • Ensures that teams have appropriate solutions and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver solutions effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines • Gains a thorough technical understanding of our current software applications and how the business uses them to manage their day-to-day work • Researches, analyzes, and recommends new technologies and processes that improve software quality, reduce development costs, and/or bring value to the business users • Contributes to software upgrades, build/buy decisions, and testing phases (unit & UAT) • Participates in release/sprint planning and scrum meetings as needed • Provides Tier III/IV support for resolving production system issues • Collaborates on hardware requirements for optimal software performance • Establishes and maintains documentation standards • Ensures adherence to SOC2 controls • Manages own work to meet agreed timelines
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of software development experience with ASP.NET and VB.net or C#.net OR 8+ years managing a software development team
- 5+ years of experience with SQL 2008 and above
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Proven experience leading technical teams.
- Strong experience with: CRM, ERP, and Managed Services platforms
- API models, architecture, and development
- API iPaaS platforms
- Microsoft SharePoint (2013+)
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Azure DevOps
- DevOps and CI/CD practices
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts
- Exposure to MVC/Razor and Web Services (WCF/Web API)
- Experience in Agile development methodologies

Success depends on strong collaboration with Avalon’s engineering, product, and leadership teams. You’ll stay closely connected to the broader organization, ensuring customer insight and technical development move forward together. What You’ll Do - Lead U.S. defense business development efforts for advanced visualization and digital twin technologies. - Identify and pursue opportunities across RDT&E, prototyping, and operational programs. - Leverage your network to open doors and map complex stakeholder environments. - Build trusted relationships with military users, acquisition teams, primes, and system integrators. - Lead customer discovery calls and demonstrations that clearly show how Avalon technology creates measurable operational value. - Translate complex technical capabilities into clear, mission-relevant outcomes. - Represent Avalon at customer sites, live demonstrations, installations, industry expos, and major defense trade shows. - Track programs, funding streams, and emerging opportunities. - Support capture strategies and drive opportunities through complex, multi-year procurement cycles. - Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and leadership teams across locations to ensure alignment across customer engagement, product development, and delivery. - This role requires frequent travel across the United States to customer sites, product demonstrations, industry expos, and trade shows.
