At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next. How do you spark joy in hundreds of millions of people? It starts with a vision - that technology can give voice to stories around the world. In delivering those much-loved stories, Netflix is responsible for a significant portion of global internet traffic. To steward that responsibility, we work collaboratively with ISPs to deploy Open Connect, Netflix’s Content Delivery Network (CDN), our in-house custom-built network and server infrastructure responsible for delivering 100% of Netflix's video traffic. In addition to streaming video delivery, Open Connect Appliances (OCAs) are ideally situated to also improve the latency between clients and the Netflix services running on AWS. The Open Connect Edge Accelerator is taking advantage of the highly geo-distributed nature of Open Connect to improve the quality of experience. It is the entry point for device and website traffic, putting it on the critical path to delivering and monitoring our product experiences. The Role We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to head the SRE team responsible for our Edge Accelerator and CDN DDoS protection services. In this role, you will define and execute the team’s roadmap with a strong focus on reliability, resilience, performance, latency measurement, traffic steering, failover mechanisms, protocol optimizations, and DDoS detection and mitigation. This position requires building strong partnerships with senior engineering and operations leaders. The ideal candidate has substantial experience leading SRE teams and supporting large scale CDN edge or cloud ingress infrastructure, with deep expertise in both technical implementation and team leadership. Required Skills - Thorough technical understanding of internet architecture, video streaming, and related topics - Deep technical expertise in designing, building, operating, and optimizing large scale 24/7 production systems - Experience leading an SRE team accountable for the reliability of large scale, highly efficient distributed content delivery or cloud infrastructure services, with a focus on edge acceleration and DDoS protection - Exceptional communication, cross-discipline collaboration, and leadership skills Things that show what we work on and how we think - Netflix Networking: Beating the Speed of Light with Intelligent Request Routing - FreeBSD optimization used by Netflix to serve 800 Gb/s from a single server - Resiliency Practices in Managing CDN - Measuring Real-Life Latency of the Internet: A Netflix Story - Mastering Near-Real Time Telemetry and Big Data Does this sound interesting? Or does this sound interesting but intimidating? Please don’t self-select out, let’s figure it out together. We’d love to talk to you!
